IP Block

i don't know why it is saying that my IP is blocked for abusing wikipedia several times, I only submited my views on a topic once if my lifetime today—Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.229.242.88 (talkcontribs)

The IP you use may be dynamic or may also be shared by several people. If this is the case, the actions of someone else on this IP may have resulted in your block. If you do use a dynamic or shared IP and you aren't responsible for the edits that resulted in the block, ignore the messages on your page. The best way to avoid being blocked because of others actions is to Create an Account. Cheers. Canadian-Bacon t c e 22:40, 10 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Someone

has been using my computer. This is ridiculous. What should I do about this. I have never even been to most of the topics mentioned in the messages. It makes me seem like a jackass.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.163.100.135 (talkcontribs)

It seems you are using America Online as an ISP. With America Online your IP address is disguised by anonymising proxy servers. This means that sites you load, such as Wikipedia see this dynamic IP address instead of your real one. This dynamic IP can change as frequently as every page load, meaning that u can easily receive warnings and blocks intended for other users who have used that IP in the past. The best way to avoid this is to Create an Account so you only receive messages intended for you. Cheers. Canadian-Bacon t c e 09:12, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dave

The ip address that contributed to your subject came from an ip address that is held by an network at a VET school in Adelaide, South Australia.

We have no idea who did it and are therefore unable to do something about it

Help on suspect vandalism

Hi, Dave :) I found your page thru the Mediation Cabal page. I'm a little discouraged and confused and I'd like to ask for your help. See, I came across this article that somebody added a redirect. [1] without moving the page, and then this user Moe Epsilon blanked the article and changed the redirect to Haji Mohammad Suharto.[2] I think the latter is some sort of vandalism (I'm not sure) since Haji Mohammad Suharto has suppressed Chinese culture during his rule and this may be a disrespect towards Chinese Indonesian. Anyway, I moved the talk page[3] and asked for a WP:SPLICE request. And when I was going to leave a talk on Moe Epsilon talk page, I was discouraged by the user's talk page. Seems there's been conflicts with this user for almost the entire talk page. So, I went looking for help and I found you. What do you think? Is this somekind of vandalism? What steps should be taken on this issue? Sorry to bother you for this, but thanks in advance. Feureau 05:29, 20 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

FN Charles de Gaulle

Please help me with a WIKI arbitration on the India-Pakistan section of French aircraft carrier the FN CHarles de Gaulle article page. There is a user (who was also involved int BLUE WATER NAVIES discussions) who keep on reverting unilaterally to sections that involve unverified claims (in my opinion). Despite my reasons and request for a consensus posted in the discussion pages, they are either rebuffed or discarded. What are the WIKI rules? Please arbitrate. I do not know how to call for an arbitration. Thanks. 80.200.125.62 00:39, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Thanks

Thanks for the swift user-page revert! Blimey, I didn't even see that one coming. I don't think I've even had any dealings with them today. Unless that was a real award they were leaving me. :) Bubba hotep 21:40, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just Trying to Help

You reverted my edit but I'm only trying to help expand the links as it wanted. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:71.96.65.155

I understand you effort to help but the links you inserted are all commercial sites, and that can be seen as advertising. If you review WP:EL you can see what kind of links Wikipedia is looking for. Thanks and happy editing. Canadian-Bacon t c 23:41, 24 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
But what other links would be suitable then?
Links that provide additional information on the topic but aren't quite suitable for an encyclopedia are a good idea. For example if you look at the Pornography article, you can see that none of the links are to specific porn sites, but rather about porn. Canadian-Bacon t c 23:45, 24 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ah. So examples do not fit in then? Okay. Sorry.
No problem at all, hope you keep up editing. Cheers. Canadian-Bacon t c 23:50, 24 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why did you alter my fine editing of the Tweede Kamer page? I find it highly offensive, and I would appreciate it if you allowed me to express myself as I see fit. Thank you for your concern.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Monkey999 (talkcontribs)

Vandalism Revert

Hello, you "reverted" graciously my entry on "failed states", where I included Canada on a list that read "In recent years various political commentators have labelled many countries as failed states, including Afghanistan, Iraq,Srilanka, Pakistan, Israel, Timor Leste, Haiti, Somalia, Yemen, and the Solomon Islands." Maybe your name indicate a bias and maybe you doo not feel like canada is a failed state, yet it has been argued in recent years by various political commentators that Canada is a failed state, for example here http://www.thepolitic.com/archives/2005/05/04/canada-failed-state-or-failed-people/. If it can be argued that Israel is a failed state and you can argue that to me, it is certainly possible to argue that Canada is too, after years of constitutional instability. Please hold on interferrence.

I am not from Canada but I agree with Canadian-Bacon Canada is not a failed state. Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 01:30, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Normally I would have no problem with the addition of a failed state if properly sourced. However the source you provide appears to be of a blogger which does not fall under WP:RS. I am however going to remove the entire list of "failed states" as it is completely unsourced. If someone wants to re-source each one they can go right ahead. Reversion of edits on User:gooku1bil

If you read what the page says, you will see that it specifically states NOT to revert any edits by me (211.28.235.242) to his page. you will note that he himself wrote that (check edit history).

Yes, it does now say that, however at the time it didn't. If you make use of an edit summary, like you did the second time there's a much smaller chance that someone will revert your edits thinking they are vandalism. Cheers. Canadian-Bacon t c 05:15, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism revert

Thank you for spotting and reverting the corruption of my user page. This is the first time I have been the target of such action. You may have noticed that the individual in question made a posting on the Humanities Desk that same day, expressing concerns about his alleged sexuality. In his place I would be much more worried about my command of the basic rules of English grammar! Anyway, I am pleased to have been under your protection. Orson Scott Card

Hello,

While I was browsing the entry for Orson Scott Card I found a message flag on top of the page from you. Unfortunately, I think the person who edited this page (or any wikipedia page, for that matter) has moved on to a new IP address. I've read many a wikipedia entry, but I have never edited, created, or commented on any.

Thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.33.109.132 (talkcontribs)

Hi, In the case that you've never edited any Wikipedia entry and you recieved that message, chances are that you are using a shared IP address, and the message was intended for another user. You can ignore the message if you haven't done anything to provoke it. Thanks and have a good day.

Transnistria Edit War help needed

Dear Canadian Bacon. Today the Transnistria page has been reopened after been locked for five weeks. Within hours of the openeing agreed edits were made in accordance with Wikipedoa rukes and these changes are fully debated and decided on. I made the edits and within hours MariusM and user 148.233.299.235 reverted the intro. This is a very contentious page and every edit is clarefully debated and we finally had an agreement. I note you had issues with this user before. The edits made by these guys today are the iddentical edits made by Evilalex an self confessed edit warrior that originally caused the page to be blocked. Can you assist us please. Mark us street Nov 27th 2006

Rfa

Hi there; for the record and away from the discussion page, if I have bitten any newbies it was certainly accidental. I have two adoptees, and get a number of incoming help requests from other beginners. If you look at my response to the user above you in the RfA page, you will see what my thoughts were on the article and user in question. Please do not think that I am trying to canvass support, because I am not; my request stand or (in this case) falls on its merits. But I would just like it known that I do not bite newcomers. I got bitten a few times myself, and know what it feels like!--Anthony.bradbury 21:48, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

RfA: Khukri

Just a quick note to say thanks for your support on my recent RfA. It became clear very quickly that my editing background was going to detrimental to my nomination. Having seen other recent RfA's fail once one or two admins opposed and others just piled on the vote, I decided it would save the ignominy if I withdrew my nomination. I don't intend to change the work I do as it's what I enjoy, so it'll be unlikely I'll apply again. Anyway thanks again for taking the time to review my nomination and giving your support. Admin coaching, etc.

Are you ready to get started?

The waiting time over at Admin coaching is long (some people have been waiting in line since July). I'm an admin coach with the project, and for my students I set up a group discussion page so that we could all learn from each other. The scope of this concept has expanded into the Virtual classroom, which is an open forum for the teaching and learning of advanced Wikipedia skills.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate, as a student, as a coach, or both. Every week or two a new major topic of discussion or classroom assignment is introduced, usually with a guest writer who presents his or her expertise on the current subject and who remains on hand to answer questions. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussions, such as sharing your expertise, asking and answering questions, etc.

The current topic of discussion is vandalism, and our guest writer is Budgiekiller.

All discussions are open-ended, so all previous discussion topics and classroom assignments are still there for viewing and further participation. There are also sections for posting miscellaneous topics and questions, requesting coaching assistance, etc.

In addition to inviting those who would like to learn, I routinely invite experts from all over Wikipedia to come and contribute for the benefit of all. The VC is rapidly turning into a clearing house of the best resources, methods, and techniques known for working on Wikipedia.

You are cordially invited to participate.

Here's an announcement box which you can place on your userpage or at the top of your talk page for keeping up to date with classroom assignments.

I hope to see you there. Sincerely,  The Transhumanist    07:58, 12 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

RFA

Hello Canadian-Bacon. I've been witnessing your work for a few months now, and according to the admin coaching program, you might be interested in becoming an admin. I believe that you already have what it takes, so are you planning to attempt an RfA soon? I reckon that other users might have offered to nominate you already, but if you need someone else, count me in. :-) Regards,--Húsönd 23:57, 15 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome. :-) I can hardly believe that I'm the first to offer, as I've been waiting to see your RfA even before your recent wikibreak. Well, as of this moment I antecipate an overwhelming support and I can't really see any cons that may lead users to oppose. I can proceed with a nomination at any time, even today. Just let me know when you would like me to. Best regards,--Húsönd 00:38, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I have plenty of time tonight, as vpbot is down and I can't use Vandalproof2. :-/ I'll prepare a nomination and then I'll give it back to you so that you may fill in with the standard answers and launch it when you wish to. It's simple, really. :-) Regards.--Húsönd 00:49, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Done! :-) Now take your time to answer the questions. When you're done, change the ending time +7 days and launch it on WP:RFA. Please let me know once you've launched it. I wish you the best luck with it. :-) Regards.--Húsönd 01:20, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Good luck! And, you're welcome. :-) Best regards.--Húsönd 03:42, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I approve of you fixing the changes made by Bobby Boulders on your user page. He was wrong to say, and I quote, "y'all's RACISS!!". It's fairly obvious your not "Raciss", as is proven by your left wing attidude, which is more of a Lenin/Marx type thing. Power to the people, down with the bourgeoisie, and all that jazz...

Barnster from TeckWiz!

  The RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
It's starting to be Christmas day in a lot of the world, and there aren't a lot of admins around to take care of the vandals. So I'm awarding you the RickK barnster for blocking a lot of vandals listed at WP:AIV, that would have continued to vandalize since it seemed like there weren't any other users monitoring it. TeckWizTalkContribs@ 02:36, 25 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Merry Christmas

Canadian-Bacon, a belated congratulations on your successful RfA, and please have some tasty Christmas cookies! Keep up the great work blocking vandals. Cheers, Dar-Ape 05:00, 25 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Agathoclea's RfA

Hello, and thank you for the support on my recent RfA despite your concerns. The final tally was 63/3/2, and I have now been entrusted with the mop. I hope I can live up to your trust, and certainly welcome any and all feedback. All the best, and thanks again! — Agathoclea 12:34, 25 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

PKK

the PKK is a TERROR organisation, do you know that?

simply reverting article's, dosnt make you better nor does it praise wikipedia.

wikipedia is then powerfull and good, when the article's written on it are TRUE, and not reverted in a record time

<this part removed by TeckWiz, as insult was made to Canadian-Bacon>

At Wikipedia we strive to maintain a neutral point of view. This means that we strive to give every article a neutral tone and remain non-judgemental. In this case, I'm fairly certain that there are many people wouldn't label the PKK as a terrorist organization, so we use a more neutral sounding term such as Armed-Militant group. Also, personal attacks are not cool. Stop. Canadian-Bacon 00:09, 26 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

My Request for Adminship

Canadian-Bacon/Archive/Archive 02

Thanks for your support on my successful Request for Adminship (final result 78 Support /0 Oppose / 1 Neutral) I have now been entrusted with the mop, bucket and keys. I will be slowly acclimating myself to my new tools over the next months. I am humbled by your kind support and would certainly welcome any feedback on my actions. Please do not hesitate to contact me. Once again, many thanks and happy new year! All the best, Asteriontalk 13:29, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Block of 81.145.241.195

The user vandalized Tera Patrick at 21:42 UTC, and I saw the AIV report and issued a missing t4 warning at 21:43 UTC. Although I don't mind, the user did not vandalize after the t4 warning, and therefore shouldn't have been blocked. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know for future purposes. =)Best, Nishkid64 21:50, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Btw, the block would have been approved by many others had the first warning been given today, but it wasn't. It was given on the 16th. Nishkid64 21:54, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah I noticed that too, but it was the first warning given on the day after a period of 11 days without warnings. Whatever, it doesn't really matter. Nishkid64 22:41, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dragon's Fury Deletion

Hello. Just wondered how I was recreating content previously deleted. I had never seen that article on Wikipedia before and after reading the book and responses to it felt that it warranted an article. Thanks.

Darthirv

The article you speak of had been recreated and deleted twice already before both times by different people, you can view it's AfD Here. Thanks. Canadian-Bacon 04:22, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your Revert

So....uh...I guess I should start off by saying I'm sorry for vanadalizing the RfA page...and...I won't do it again. I only did it because I couldn't find anything else to do. So, d'you want to give me a hand? --Sean Jones1 04:33, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Deletions

You don't stop deleting ! It's worth than the french guillotine for a poor breton writer , not as important as Shakeaspeare , I know , but ,trying only to express oneself in breton ,english and french , and trying to make better known the breton and celtic sensibility ! Thanks for the so-called "free " Encyclopedia . You should read again my poem " Ni Hon-Unan " ( translated in your language : Just By Ourselves ) , and visit by the way my site : Dan Ar Wern Official Website .—Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.214.68.2 (talkcontribs) 14:11, 29 December 2006

We all hate having our work deleted, it sucks, I'll admit it and yet it's happened to all of us. Administrators are bound to certain processes, through which we have to delete articles. Specifically these processes are WP:CSD, WP:PROD and WP:AFD. These processes, in turn are bound by several guidelines, notably WP:N, WP:V, WP:OR, WP:NPOV and WP:NOT. Understandably, this mass of rules can be confusing to those who don't know the system. All I can really say, is sorry. Canadian-Bacon 17:57, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Happy Birthday! (And a mistake on WP:AIV)

Happy Birthday (and New Year)! I saw your edit summary on WP:AIV. It appears I made the note "User does not appear warned" because I didn't see any warnings on his IP talk page; looks like that was because the cache hadn't updated. Anyway, cheers! Yuser31415 05:12, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

75.25.2.201

You stated on Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism that the links he's providing seem to confirm the statistics that he is providing. The problem is that they do not. He's providing different numbers than the source states, which is why this is a (rather frustrating) case of vandalism. I just wanted to let you know that, and in the meantime, I'm putting this back up on the Administrator page, so that hopefully we can get rid of this guy. Dlong 15:07, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dan Ar Wern

About " Dan Ar Wern " deletion : Thanks for your understanding , and , by the way , I wish you a happy New Year ! How is it in Canada ? However , Dan is a very nice guy , trying only to make his culture known for all those who consider "France " as a monolithic way of thinking , without differences and minorities . I think it's the same in Northern America . So , I deplore this fact Wikipedia beeing too much like the others , and not open enough to all those who have not yet won the Nobel Prize . On my opinion ,it should be different , and , beeing an " open door " to different sensibilities and people working for better understanding throughout the world . But please , stop considering people like only " deleted material " . It's really offending ! A friend of Dan . —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.214.92.117 (talkcontribs).

Illegal bot account

Do something about this. I've come across a user called User:Annebot in the recent changes log, its an illegal bot account, or a inapropiate username.--Rasillon 17:27, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
