Avoiding copyright problems

Hello, and welcome. Your addition to Paper doll has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

• You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
• Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
• Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
• In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
• Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

Sourcing

I noticed you have been adding tons of cites to articles and I applaud you for it, however About.com is considered a self published source that has basically no editorial over-site at all and therefore use of it as a source should be avoided. Also when adding information to music genre articles please try to discuss any changes or additions on the talk pages of the article. These articles are a magnet for synthesis and original research. You might want to slow down

Welcome. I see you've made many edits in a well-meaning effort to provide citations & references. Some of these are helpful, but some are either using unreliable sources, or are making the articles more cluttered to no real advantage (the Etymology edits, e.g.). So please slow down and maybe read the links in the Welcome message above. As it is now, many of your edits are requiring other editors to clean up. Also, please use informative edit summaries, and, if you can, try to make simple edits in one pass - there's a "preview" button for that purpose. Nerve

Hello. Just a quick note to let you know I removed the refs you added to the lede. There is no reason to link to dictionary entries unless a word's definition is in dispute, and even then it probably wouldn't belong in the lede. Just to note that I have also removed cites you have added to other articles. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a dictionary, so there is no need to cite words with links to their definitions and/or their etymology. Copyright violations

Please stop copying and pasting copyrighted, non-free text from other websites. You can rewrite it in your own words with the same facts, but you can't copy and paste whole paragraphs. --Pmsyyz (talk) 07:31, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Could you please go back over your recent edits and either remove, or substantially reword, the copyrighted content that you lifted from the Texas State Historical Association website, among others. Otherwise someone else will have to remove them, and they'll probably bother working around the other content you've added. The Texas State Historical Association is an excellent source to cite, but as Pmsyyz above notes, you cannot simply copy their text into Wikipedia. City and town websites

Recently you have done a great job at finding websites for towns. This is much needed work and I applaud you for it. Unfortunately, you have been placing them in the wrong place and I have had to go fix all your edits. I would like to show you where the website already has a nice little home on town pages. It's called the infobox. This box lists all the facts about a town. Right at the bottom of the info box is a line to put the website. We do not put any website addresses in the actual body of a Wikipedia article. From your most recent edits, it's appears to me that you may have noticed that some towns already have a website listed here, and then you delete your sentence about the towns website. School websites are only used as a reference. I see that you have figured out how to make references and should continue doing that for all school listings. Although it seems nice to have a link to the school's website right in the article, these lists of links are hard to manage for bigger towns. Schools are also notorious for changing their web address, so Wikipedia gets left with a lot of dead links in the middle of articles. There is an External links section that you could create, but I would recommend against this. The guidelines specifically say that you should not place educational links here.

As for your signature:

1. At the end of your comments simply type four tildes (~), like this: ~~~~.
2. Or if you are using the edit toolbar option (it usually appears above the edit screen as a default), click the signature icon: or , to add the four tildes.

Creating a new Education section

Hi BuzyBody. Your recent edits look great. The only thing is the placement of new "Education" sections. They go much lower on the city page than you have been placing them. any please let me know & I will correct. When I see subjects such as “General Information” under Lyman, Maine – should I remove that information if I am certain it is already provided? In this instance, both the zip code and area code are in the info box already. If I would remove that information, would I list the local phone code in the info box? Ya, info like that should stay within the info box, and not end up in the articles body text. I removed it from Lyman, Maine. But if you see anything that doesn't fit WP:USCITY feel free to challenge it.

Also, there is no reason to add a blank Education section. Sections from WP:USCITY should only be added if you have some info to put in them. I went through and removed the blank sections you added in the last few days. Cheers --Dkriegls (talk to me!) 03:00, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

"Invalid" links

That's OK, but you need to be more careful. - I've reverted your edits to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim page, as you are badly breaking links. Santa Clara Broncos baseball has no relation to Santa Clara Angels, and other link 'fixes' that you performed completely changed the context and meaning of sentences. Redlinks are not bad and should not be removed, especially when their replacements are erronious. Disambiguation pages

Please stop adding entries to disambiguation pages that don't contain any links to articles. A disambiguation page is not a generic word list, it is a navigation aid that helps in cases where there are articles on multiple things that could be referred to by the same name. Every entry on a dab page must have one (and only one) working link.

You should read Wikipedia:Disambiguation and Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Disambiguation pages before making any more edits to disambiguation pages.--Srleffler (talk) 03:46, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Etymology

Most articles do not require an etymology section. Wikipedia is not a dictionary. The topic of a Wikipedia article is a thing, not the name by which that thing is known; in general etymology is off-topic. For example, the topic of the article Meadow is fields covered with grass, not the word Meadow. The origin of the English word that is used to describe fields covered with grass is not relevant to the topic of the article. Readers looking for etymology should consult a dictionary.--Srleffler (talk) 03:53, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

William Medill

I noticed that you added a reference using Template:cite web. The accessdate= parameter has the format yyyy-mm-da. The way you have used it in Medill's article and elsewhere makes it appear you have joined us from the future. Check out Template:cite web for details on how to use it.

Also, I don't think city mottos are written in all-caps.
