Coords edit

Hi Burntnickel, thanks for your numerous updates to the List of volcanoes in the United States of America. Just one note about coords, when you use degree-minute-seconds notation, it is best not to use decimals on the arcseconds. The reason is that 1 arcsecond is only about 100 ft for all latitudes and for longitudes at the equator, and less for longitudes elsewhere. The locations of summits are not generally known to better horizontal resolution than that, so decimals are not needed. Also, in dd°mm′ss″ notation, it is standard to include leading zeroes for degrees and minutes, e.g. 33°02′07″. And if using dd.ddd° notation, three decimal places is sufficient.

I know that lots of mountain articles currently have coordinate problems (including having decimal arcseconds), but feel free to fix those ones too if you see them. I usually try to fix coord problems if I see them while making other edits. Thanks. --Seattle Skier (See talk tierS) 11:14, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think that it is preserving leading zeroes properly, if they're typed in. I've haven't used {{coord}} yet, only the deprecated {{coor dms}}, but both seem OK per these examples:
The leading zeroes appear to be there (at least in my browser). But I think if you enter decimal degrees, then it eats the leading zeroes and somtimes even converts incorrectly:
I'm not sure why the template doesn't just display dd.ddd° if that's the way a number is entered. I'm going to ask about this and the conversion errors on the template's talk page. --Seattle Skier (See talk tierS) 18:06, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hopi Buttes Volcanic Field edit

I was dealing with a speedy delete request and the redirect seemed like the better idea. Coliseum Maar and Hopi Buttes Volcanic Field both redirect to Hopi Buttes volcanic field you can use the history tab to find anything worth merging. Otherwise, I think everything is the way you wanted it. If you need more or I did not get you request right, let me know. Vegaswikian 22:53, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

coord title edit

I noticed you removed title from display=inline, title at Mount Bachelor. That isn't recommended as the title parameter provides:

  1. The object's coordinates at the top-right of the article
  2. Creates a geotag microformat which aids automatic extraction of the feature's coordinates.

See the documentation at template:Coord. —EncMstr (talk) 22:15, 26 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (File:Frogger II three deep screen 2 a jcg.png) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Frogger II three deep screen 2 a jcg.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. BELOW, is what I previously wrote:

I apologize for the irreverent tone, ["if any"], at Talk:Yellowstone_Caldera#excessive_overkill_leading_to_ambiguity. The change needed, to the article, is probably only a handful of characters, to be edited.

I also apologize for the fact that what I wrote there, is so long. But in order for me to shorten it, it would have taken even more time; and I have other things to do.

Your help on this ["if any"], would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. --Mike Schwartz (talk) 15:46, 22 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey Burntnickel; I'm dropping you this note because you've used the article feedback tool in the last month or so.
