I've given him a shorter block to hopefully get his attention. His contributions may need further review, I see a lot of instances where he's removed the writing credits from the articles for Avenged Sevenfold singles and replaced them with the band. About garage rock article

I've been doing a lot of trimming at the Garage rock article lately. The article is now approx. 140kb's smaller than it was before the reductions.[1] I hope that I haven't gone overboard with the trims, but I'm trying to honor the wishes of those who wanted to see the article trimmed. I would like to nominate it for FAC soon, once the necessary trims have been made--I think that it is near-ready. I was wondering how your feel about the article as it now stands? Mini review of lead section:

• The spaced em dashes used for sentence interruption should be changed to either spaced en dashes or unspaced em dashes, per WP:DASH.
• The second paragraph assumes a US viewpoint, but such a viewpoint was not established, for instance by saying "In the US..."
• "later retroactive" is redundant.
• "In the late-1980s" does not require a hyphen since "late 1980s" is not being used as an adjective.
• "Back to basics" is not discussed in the article body, and can be removed.
• "Do it yourself" is adjectival, modifying "musical approach", so it ought to be hyphenated as "do-it-yourself". This concept is also not discussed in the article body, so it violates WP:LEAD.

If I found these things in the lead section, I'm sure a bunch more can be found in the article body. Binksternet (talk) 22:30, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

Before I remove the phrases "back to basics" and "do it yourself" would it be OK if I could add corresponding statements into the main body of the article (provided I can find the right sources)? Thanks. I just went in and made all of the other corrections you recommended. I replaced the former dashes with proper em dashes. I clarified the US viewpoint issue (and added statement about tie-in movements in other countries). I took the hyphen out of "late-80s" and corrected the redundancy (replaced "later retroactive" with "subsequent"). Now all I have to do is find the sources to put corresponding statements about "back to basics" and "do it yourself" in the main body. Thanks. Garagepunk66 (talk) 03:37, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

Sure! Long-Term Abuse. The IP here is from Lima, Peru, as have been a large number of others, for instance three that were blocked recently.[2][3][4] I don't remember which LTA page covers this guy... I will try and find it. I think it's a guy who uses IP addresses from Venezuela, Colombia, Peru and other South American countries. Binksternet (talk) 19:56, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

I think the question now is whether there is room on Wikipedia for the two articles: the Spectrasonics company and the founder Eric Persing. Does Persing have any notability beyond the business. Question

Hi Binksternet, thank you for your contributions so far. I have a question about the article Blue Bayou. On 26 January you removed there most of the English cover versions and all versions in other languages. Why did you do that? And out of all the English cover versions - what's the reason that you kept the two by Piet Veerman (1980) and Swiss (2012) in the article? Are they any more noteworthy than the others? Considering the fact that Blue Bayou is a most popular song as the article's own charts and figures clearly show, cover versions by different artists - both in English and other languages - certainly create here a much more informative reading material. Besides that, the removed lines did not make the article particularly confusing or unreadable. I'm just writing this after careful consideration because I'm a fan of this song and really appreciated the additional information and don't understand why it has been removed. I have listened to many of the cover versions - also in other languages -, and quite a few of them are really good which, admittedly, is always a question of individual taste. There is a particularly steep hurdle for cover songs to be listed in a song article, and you can read it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Songs#Cover versions/multiple renditions. It says that a cover version must be discussed in the literature describing the song, or it must meet Wikipedia's notability requirements all by itself. The guideline does not support a full listing of every cover version performed by famous artists, although many song articles take that stance. Every time my attention is drawn to a song article's cover version section I trim it according to the guideline, and I leave an edit summary that says something about WP:SONGCOVER, which is the shortcut to the guideline. Note that Sundayclose removed most of the song cover section five months ago, citing the same guideline.

I think a song that was released as a single is worthy of keeping in the article, but not songs that are unremarkable album tracks. That explains why I kept two cover versions. Binksternet (talk) 05:06, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

Obviously I agree with Binksternet. Those cover versions (over 50 of them) should never have been restored without discussion after I removed them. Cluttering the article with every conceivable version of the song that has ever been recorded not only violates the guideline, in this case it weakens the entire article by overshadowing everything else when it takes up almost half of the article. March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

House And Garage - large blocks of edits to articles that concern me...

Hi Binkerstenet.

I've been looking at the house music, garage music and Chicago house music pages and am concerned by large blocks of edits by a user called called Ilovetopaint(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Ilovetopaint). This editor altered the house, Chicago house and garage music pages, stating that Garage music is now only known as Garage house and that house music originated at the Paradise Garage in New York, not in Chicago. It was done quite covertly but I have reverted the edits and left messages on the talk pages. I wonder if you would look into this? I have looked at the number of edits made by Ilovetopaint in a typical day, and some of his/her replies to people who question him/her on the Ilovetopaint Talk page, and I really do not feel confident communicating with him/her further as I am just recovering from a period of ill health. I'm concerned that something is quite amiss with the agenda - New York, the birth place of House? I'm English so I don't know much about life in the USA, but I wonder if there is some sense of city rivalry that is prompting these changes of location?

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road "Release" section

Hi Bink ... first off, really like your bio! Good stuff - quite the resume! Got an audio background myself, though only stuck my foot in the live mixing pool. Anyway, I got your note about Discogs not being "reliable." Just an observation: given sections such as the one in question, and these exist in listings for numerous releases, it's going to be difficult if not impossible to find a repository of that information that's any better delineated or otherwise "reliable" to document release formats. If you'd like to point me to another place to look, I'll be happy to start there. I haven't found or figured out a better source to validate anything along those lines. Suggestions?
