2018 is shaping up well

Hoo boy. So, after entering - nay, dominating - the debate 3 times, you announce that the debate should never have happened. I trust you were addressing that remark to your good self, good sir. These publicly released entries from your private diary make fascinating reading. You ought to consider publishing all of them. Happy days.  :) -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 17:51, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

About the Nazi Troll

User:Brandon 3233 doesn't seem to fit the modus operandi of the Nazi Refdesk troll. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jayron ' s alternate account (talkcontribs) 00:57, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Brandon3233 / Ref Desk Troll

Noticed your report on AIV regarding the above account. Don't have time to look into this in detail right now, but is there an LTA page to go over the usual behaviour of this individual to make it easier for administrators to verify for themselves whether an account is actually being operated by this person? I know that some feel that creating such pages is "giving in" to long term vandals, but I think that anything that helps in identifying and despatching the accounts of unusually persistent delinquents like this more quickly is of value to the project. Such a page could then be linked to in the AIV report to give administrators not familiar with the pattern guidance in what to do. Lankiveil (speak to me) 01:03, 8 January 2018 (UTC).Reply

This LTA is Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Ref Desk Antisemitic Troll there is a slight chance that it is Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Vote (X) for Change but the question makes the first more likely. MarnetteD|Talk 01:14, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Messed up the ping so here is a new one Lankiveil. Creating a sock using Jayron's name was a twist that I hadn't seen before. MarnetteD|Talk 01:16, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
@MarnetteD: Ah, good to see someone is ahead of me! I suggest linking to this then when reporting this individual at AIV, just to give a little more context, and to head off any potential questions. Lankiveil (speak to me) 01:36, 8 January 2018 (UTC).Reply

Olive branch?

I was pondering the recent disagreements we have had, mostly regarding the reference desks which I finally decided to unsubscribe from so I won't see any of the disputes between participants and be tempted to weigh in (I may still occasionally answer or ask a question in the computer area, but I am now trying to avoid any drama by withdrawing when I see it starting.)

I remember that previously we had a pretty collegial relationship and were able to work together on various pages, and in general I respect your attitude and ability. So I would like to extend an olive branch and ask that we both make a fresh start.

I am a high-functioning autistic (Asperger's, diagnosed by a qualified M.D., not self-diagnosed as many are), so you may see me purposely withdrawing from conflict when my brain is telling me "just post another paragraph and they will see the light" despite abundant evidence that that is not going to happen. Please try to understand why I might do this. It isn't personal.

So, peace treaty? Or maybe we should just have a dance fight like they did in West Side Story?[3]  :) --Guy Macon (talk) 22:37, 24 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

FYI

Hello BB. I suspect you've seen the newsreel footage from game one of the 1919 World Series. The story of the serendipitous recovery of that footage, in 1978 in Dawson City, is told in Dawson City: Frozen Time. I found it a fascinating documentary so I thought I would make you aware of it. New Page Reviewing

Hello, Baseball Bugs.

I've seen you editing recently and you seem like an experienced Wikipedia editor.
Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. (After gaining the flag, patrolling is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the tutorial before making your decision. Thanks. —usernamekiran(talk) 14:30, 20 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Reference desks

Why don't we all have a cup of tea or some other nice beverage and move on? I supported closing down the reference desks but the community disagreed. But there is consensus that "ref desk regulars" should provide answers based on links to Wikipedia articles or relevant external links. So, Bugs, please avoid speculative or flip comments at the ref desks and all will be well. Thank you. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:46, 22 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Edit count: Pie chart

I peeked at your pie chart & have figured out why you're currently in trouble. Nearly over 47% of your edits are to RefDesk/AN/ANI type pages & merely (less then) 16% of your edits are to 'main space'. Basically, you're showing up 'too often' at 'too many' discussions & it's apparently annoying many editors, while doing very little to actual article editing. Personally, I don't mind this. But, if you want to get the others off of your back? then it's best to begin tipping the percentage in opposite directions. BTW: I was once a talkpage junkie, myself. GoodDay (talk) 14:06, 2 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Actually, when I got myself in real trouble in the past, it was from defending political articles from vandals. I don't do that anymore. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 14:10, 2 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Baseball Bugs. I closed the AN/I discussion about you. As per your own suggestion, I believe there is a consensus that you should be banned from editing AN and AN/I. Ref Desk

I just happened to land on Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Language] checking a new user's edits and was surprised to note your "contributions" from May 27-May 31 range from downright stupid to completely confusing. Please stop posting stupid misleading unresearched "answers" based on whatever nonsense pops into your head. You might remember we had a serious discussion about banning you from the Ref desk recently. Based on my quick review of this portion of Ref desk over the visable questions I see that proposed ban is well justified. Remember we are here to build an encyclopedia - find something useful to do in mainspace. Legacypac (talk) 11:58, 31 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

As I said on the RDS, if you are unable to understand simple discussions, I urge you to stay away from the RDS as a responder. It is very difficult to contribute productively when your ability to understand simple discussions is so limited. I'm not sure why your ability is so weak, since as I said it's clearly not an English problem. Well, the first reason I rolled your edit back was because the sentence didn't make sense. The first word of the sentence should not have been "I". Go back and look. The second reason was because it was just trivia. Whether Ebsen outlived other members of the cast of a movie is unimportant in the larger scheme of a persons life. My post regarding silicone temperature

Please do not remove my post again. If you want to discuss the legitmacy of it then please do so here or on my talk page or even under the post. It is not reasonable to have to try to communicate in edit summaries. I notice wp:deny discusses a way to deal with trolling but it's only one person's accussation that I'm trolling rather than trying to find an answer to a legitimate question. You should also be familiar with Wikipedia's policy on assuming good faith. 185.230.100.66 (talk) 10:19, 5 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Just stop trolling. You asked what the melting point of silicone is, got an answer, then proceeded to asked what the melting point of silicone is again in a new section. Three editors have reverted your trolling already.
There once was a drunk driver who was driving the wrong way on the freeway. Upon hearing on the radio (over the honking horns) that there was a drunk driver who was driving the wrong way on the freeway, he peered through his windshield, noticed all of the headlights heading toward him, and exclaimed "My God! There are DOZENS of them!!" --Guy Macon (talk) 10:46, 5 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
At what point did you determine I was a troll, Guy Macon? Was it because I asked the second question in a different section (immediate contravention of WP:GF because I hadn't even been confronted at that point) or are you actually just trying to leverage the fact that I'm pushing back against your bullying to make out like I'm actually the one trolling? I never once asked what the melting point of silicone is. If you yourself read the anwser (the one made by the guy who actually seemed to know what he was talking about) silicone doesn't melt; it burns when it gets too hot. Regardless how many of you rally to support each other in this, last time I checked Wikipedia isn't subject to the tyranny of the majority and the policy of assuming good faith (as opposed to immediately calling me a troll over and over) will hopefully prevail. 185.230.100.66 (talk) 11:42, 5 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

(edit conflict) I did read it VW. It clearly says "I'm no fan of Vote (X) for Change, but he had a point here". No where do you state that the post linked to was made by someone other than Vote X. I'm not sure how more properly I could have read it. Sigh MarnetteD|Talk 16:10, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
OK, I'll try and make this clearer for you. I linked to two edits. The first was a Vote X post, subsequently deleted, in which he took BB to task for deleting the post in Farsi. When I said "he had a point", that's what I was referring to. The second post I linked to was BB's deletion of the Farsi post. If you had bothered to check the edit history, you would have seen that the Farsi post was not made by Vote X. BB deleted it not because it was by Vote X, but because it was in Farsi, and he incorrectly described it as "vandalism". My point is that just because a post on the ref desk is in a language you do not understand, that is not sufficient reason for deleting it.
To BB: it wasn't in Arabic, it was in Farsi. They are different languages. --Viennese Waltz 16:42, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
OK, can you provide an exact translation of the Farsi question? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 17:02, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
No, and neither can you. Well, you could have used your favourite translation tool, Google Translate, which you would almost certainly have done if the post had been in French or German. Or, and here's a wild thought, you could have not done anything at all. Either option would have been better than deleting a post as vandalism just because you don't understand it. --Viennese Waltz 17:07, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
So put it back already. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 17:09, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

If you don't care if it gets put back, then I certainly don't. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 17:15, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
So a new user, who probably doesn't speak any English, asks a good faith question. Instead of politely helping him by running a machine tool translation, or pointing him to the correct place to go to get his question answered, you delete his post as vandalism and don't care what happens. Nice way to treat the newbies, BB. --Viennese Waltz 17:20, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I remain unconvinced that it belongs. But if you think it does belong, you're free to put it back, and I won't stand in your way. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 17:22, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Why do you think it might not belong? --Viennese Waltz 17:24, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
How do you suppose VXFC knew about it? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 17:30, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
That doesn't even begin to make sense. You deleted the post 15 minutes after it went up, and VXFC didn't revert your deletion until ten hours later. He knew about it because he looks at edit histories, like a lot of us do. If you're somehow suggesting VXFC made the Farsi post, you're really clutching at straws. --Viennese Waltz 22:40, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, VFXC is a stalker. In any case, if you think it belongs, then put it back. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 05:27, 15 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
At this point I'm less concerned with putting it back than with understanding your reasons for deleting it in the first place. VXFC, for all his faults, does not make single-purpose accounts and post questions in Farsi from them. You seem strangely reluctant to explain why you deleted it and why you called it vandalism. Is it because you don't like Muslims? --Viennese Waltz 06:25, 15 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I conclude that you also don't think it belongs. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 07:07, 15 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I think it belongs. --Viennese Waltz 07:20, 15 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Then put it back. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 07:23, 15 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Enough of this bullshit. I'm taking this to RD talk. --Viennese Waltz 07:36, 15 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
