Speedy deletion nomination of Rebecca Ma edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Rebecca Ma, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Deletion edit

Hi! I'm replying here to the email so that my response is public. What ultimately happened with the article is that it was written in a very casual tone that appeared to play up the benefits of using Studipal. It was enough to where it could be seen as a way to get people to use the service. This section in particular is what made it seem promotional:

In an interview with the CEO of Silicon Valley Bank, Ken Wilcox, Ma claims to have noticed students studying for exams in groups, and felt that many students got frustrated because this form was ineffective and inefficient for students to find accurate and easily understandable resources from the internet. She wanted to leverage internet technology to make available peer tutoring anytime, anywhere. In addition, she wanted to incorporate rewards program to encourage peer leadership and collaborative learning.

It's written in what people on Wikipedia tend to call puffery or PR speak. (On a side note, if you are someone that was asked to write this article on her behalf and/or part of a marketing or press company, you do need to be transparent about this per WP:COI.)

However that said, I have no true issue with restoring this and sending it to WP:AfC if you want, where you can work on improving and cleaning it up, then submit it for editor consideration. I'd recommend that you use the WP:TEAHOUSE heavily during the process, as they're an excellent resource for editors seeking help and there's always someone active there, so you can expect that any questions will be answered quickly. If you want the article sent to AfC, just let me know by pinging me here by posting {{ping|Tokyogirl79}}. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:05, 12 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Tokyogirl79:

Hi Tokyogirl79, thank you for taking the time to reply. It is informative and helpful. Could you please kindly send the subject article to WP:AfC as I plan to further revise and clean up pursuant to Wikipedia standards.

In response to COI: my interest in editing mainly covers tech companies and young entrepreneurs, but I am neither associated nor paid by her/my company, please let me know if I still need to make a disclaimer in the subject's Talk page. Thanks! --BarretKPCN (talk) 06:34, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

  • I've sent it to AfC and you can edit it at Draft:Rebecca Ma. If you're not associated with her and aren't going to get any benefit by making this, then there's nothing that you need to disclose. Cheers! Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:09, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

  • Here's the reason of the decline: This article lacks certain sections that could expand the article. There's also some lack in a Neutral Point of View for the person. Initially, there is also some formatting or data that doesn't appear constructive. You should add some more information, change the headers and how they section, and try giving a neutral point of view before re-submitting. Thank you. *Xyaena~* (talk) 18:48, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
