Hello, I'm Yamaguchi先生. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Pardeep Narwal, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! Yamaguchi先生 (talk) 18:49, 7 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Wikipedia about living (or recently deceased) persons, as you did to Bajrang Punia. Thank you. Yamaguchi先生 (talk) 18:53, 7 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Caste in an biography article

edit

Caste of a living person requires self-identification in an interview or declaration in verified social media handles like Twitter, etc, per WP:CONSENSUS at WP:INB. That is the person should mention that he/she belongs to the caste explicitly. Do not add otherwise. For dead people you only need a reliable source WP:RS. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:27, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

ok Aviral18 (talk) 11:35, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
You said OK, but not following consensus and rules in Wikipedia. You added Sushil Kumar, using Jatland.com as a source, which is considered unreliable in Wikipedia. Even reliable sources do not work for living people. You need an interview video or tweet from Sunil Kumar where he says "I am a Jat". See the Bajrang Punia source where he self-identifies his Jat caste - "अंतर्राष्ट्रीय जाट दिवस की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं । मुझे गर्व है मेरे समाज पर जो बुलंदियों को छू रहा है". Find a similar or and interview for Sushil Kumar. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:47, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
sorry sir new to wikipedia. I will keep it in mind now Aviral18 (talk) 11:54, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Please stop adding names of living people in List of Jat people without any self-identification. SIdhu Moose Wala is kept because he is dead. Per WP:CONSENSUS in Wikipedia, we cannot mention caste of people in their articles or a list if no self-identification is present (interview or declaration in official social media handle, website). - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:45, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
i am adding sources and everyone whom i am putting is from jat community. What is wrong in it? Aviral18 (talk) 15:50, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
That's what I've been saying. Adding a source is not enough for a living person. As per the below consensus, you have to provide an interview or tweet/post from the person's official social media account where he/she says they are Jat. The source I added for Bajrang Punia above [1], he says मुझे गर्व है मेरे समाज, that is self-identification that he is a Jat. Simply adding a source that says a person is Jat is not enough for living people, but is OK for dead people. For example, Moosewala is dead. We didn't write his caste when he was living, since no self-identification was available then, but after his death, I added his caste in Sidhu Moose Wala article, since the self-identification policy do not apply to dead people, but only living. Hope you understand that. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:09, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
This is the WP:CONSENSUS at WP:INB with a poll also, against mentioning caste of a living person without self-identification. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:49, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
other communities have also done this
can you take this action on their page too?? Aviral18 (talk) 15:58, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I can. I check only List of Brahmins, List of Jats, List of Rajputs and List of Khatris. Besides it is a consensus. You can challenge and remove them from other articles. If someoone has problem, tell me. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:01, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Use reliable sources like news portal, books, etc. This is a Wiki like blog source, so unreliable. Harnaaz Sandhu source you provided was fine, since her motehr said that they are Jatt Sikhs in an interview. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:23, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

so those who do not have Wiki page will not be added in list even there are are proper sources?? Aviral18 (talk) 11:03, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes people without Wikpedia articles can't be added per notability. If you want, you can draft articles of them per WP:WTAF WP:GNG and get them reviewed (thus moved to mainspace), thus establishing notability. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:12, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
if i draft article of them. can they be added after that? Aviral18 (talk) 17:14, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
You have to get those reviewed and transferred to the mainspace. Drafts can't be linked in articles per MOS:DRAFTNOLINK guidelines. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:28, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hathi singh tomar moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Hathi singh tomar, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
