I may have been confusing Currie and Drummond's July 1829 expedition to Rockingham with Collie and Preston's more extensive trip into the Peel-Harvey Estuary and down to the mouth of the Collie River in November. Wayback Machine tips

If you mean the JKR citation reanimations, well, the very last two I did were reanimated using the Wayback Machine, which can be found at: www.archive.org What you do is: you find the dead http:// address in the Edit page & you click & highlight it. Then you copy & paste it into the 'Take me Back' box in Wayback: paste in the dead link & click search. They'll give you different versions of the page going back in time and the recent one usually states, 'unavailable'. So you work back from there & find one that's still alive. Click and drag its address to highlight it, and then copy it. Now, you want to go back to your citation code in Wikipedia. Ok, so you find the old decayed http address line there and you can now delete it. Then you copy the new one in its place. To finish off you might want to add a few bits of info, you know like, 'Archived from Wayback Machine' or whatever just to be clear. I don't know if I'm supposed to also pop in 'Retrieved again on [date]' I don't usually take it this far & haven't been corrected yet. So that was my last two edits on the JKR bio page. As for the ones before, I'm not sure. I think most of these previous reanimations on JKR were done from scratch from browsing searches in Start Page and the like. In fact many JKR citations came up on the same page which was lucky & helpful, like her own official biography page. On a last note I feel morally okay using Wayback Machine - the staff there are very helpful with people who wish to delete old pages from the archive. Plus they don't abuse the person's privacy by making them available to search engines. Well I'm in two minds about their archive - I don't think they really have any right to archive material without the person's consent in the first place...but seeing as they make the process of removal so easy, at least that's not so bad. Thank you for your encouragement. In fact my answer has clarified the process for me - I'll refer to it in future if I've been offline for a while. PS - I've just done an example of reanimating a dead link on the Rowan Williams page. Please could you help me keep an eye on it. This user seems to have a real problem with his basic grasp of Englsh. He has a knack of creating long winded nonsensical statements that are unencyclopaedic. He's damaged many India related articles. I know he means well but he lacks WP:COMPETENCE. Discussion - Bending a good article in BS Wiki

"Unexplained claim to be a good article in Bosnian"? Why didn't you check further instead of just reverting? I am an admin on BS Wiki so I suppose I know what I'm doing. I admit the mistake for not explaining it in the summary. We had a voting for the article and it passed. We even considered proposing it for a featured article (our Wiki is not rich as EN), but we settled down on this for now (there are some minor issues that have left). Of course, we all have to learn English, but you don't have to learn even a bit of Bosnian [not personal; just a general issue ("big" language vs. "small" language/s/)]. -- KWiki (talk) 07:32, 7 October 2014 (UTC) I did, of course, check before I undid the edit. The Bosnian article on bending had not yet received a project assessment for class, and there was no evidence on its talk page of an assessment by an independent panel for good article status. If the Bosnian article has indeed been properly assessed to be a good article, that should be recorded in the usual way on its talk page I subsequently checked on KWiki's user page that he is not recorded there as a Wikipedia administrator. Perhaps there should be a separate symbol for national administrators. Just curious about your reversion of the Wikisource Dictionary of Naval Biography link.

Two exceptions are Wiktionary and Wikisource links that may even be linked inline (e.g., to the text of a document being discussed or to a word that might not be familiar to all readers)." The O'Byrne article includes no information that is not already provided, often in more detail, in the Wikipedia article. It does not fulfil the see also function of providing additional related information for readers who would like to explore further around the subject. It would have been inappropriate, even if it had not already been included as a reference.

In 2007/2008 I consulted the O'Byrne article in the Naval Biographical Dictionary (the original, not the Wikisource mirror), now archived here The reason there is only one reference to it is because, in general, other sources were better, more detailed, or more authoritative. Quotations in Lead

Hi .. could you clarify what is the policy on placing a quotation to begin the lead section ? Does it mention anywhere that it is prohibited ?

I checked the links you posted. It describes what the first "sentence" of the lead section should be. However, does it prohibit placing a quotation before the first sentence ?

You placed the quotation before what had been the first paragraph, so the quotation became the first paragraph and was incorrect, because it did not follow the MOS advice in WP:LEADPARAGRAPH and WP:LEADSENTENCE.

The quotation does not belong anywhere in the lead section of the article, see MOS:INTRO. It could perhaps be put later in the article, but will need to cite a verifiable reliable source for the translation into English.

Also, IMHO, it is not a very important piece of information to be presented upfront. It could be included in the later sections, e.g., early life. I hope you understand my reasoning.

The sentence regarding the celebration in October/November of Guru Nanak's birthday was added originally because several contributors thought incorrectly that his actual birthday was then, see the article's history and talk. Himalayas

Hello, thanks for your edit and for cleaning up the sentence in the Etymology section. I just wanted to suggest adding the actual Sanskrit word to the etymology section given that the English word directly descends from the Sanskrit word (examples of this can be seen in the articles: jungle and Suvarnabhumi airport.)

Would it be alright if the sentence could be changed from this:

"The name Himālaya is from Sanskrit: hima (snow) + ālaya (dwelling), and literally means "abode of snow".[6]"

to this?

Sikh Empire Flag research

Hi Apuldram! In response for your messages about the two flags created by me, I wished to tell you, that unfortunately there are is no book with Sikh flag topic. The only thing that I was based on are 18th and 19th century Punjabi paintings most displayed here:http://www.sikhmuseum.com/nishan/empire/index.html. I don't know if that can be trusted as reliable source in Wikipedia. I know that the flag pattern shown these days, was not used by the Sikh Empire. Hello. I suffer from severe depression and anxiety, and become very afraid when I sense that something might lead to a heated argument, so I cannot engage in any kind of conflict without damaging my health, but I will attempt to explain my action on the article of Jind Kaur. Please be assured: this is not a about prestige, status, disrespect, or anything of that sort, this is just about this: when there is a precise, advanced category, then a more clumsy category should not be used of any person, George IV or any on else. It only overflows categories, make them enormous, and makes it more difficult to find articles. When there is two alternatives, the more advanced and detailed category should be used. I have no other wish, than simply to make articles easy to find, and to use detailed categories, rather than clumsy ones. Jind Kaur was a regent, which makes her a ruler: a "ruler" can be used for both regents, monarchs, or any kind of ruler in a monarchy. And she was a female ruler under the 19th-century. No other article of a female ruler under the 19th-century, are also categorized as a "female regent", because it is unnecessary, and because each article deserve detailed categories when they exist. It the cases when articles have both detailed and clumsy categories with the same meaning, then the reason is likely simply that the clumsy cat was added first, before the detailed cat was created, and the clumsy cat was simply left there and forgotten. As I said, I am too mentally fragile to argue, but I hope that I have managed to make myself understood, and assured you that I have no disrespectful intent. --Aciram (talk) 15:36, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

The problem is not about prestige or disrespect but about accuracy.
Jind Kaur was undoubtably a female regent and users looking for a list of female regents would naturally look in that category and the list would be incorrect if it omitted her name.

@Ms Sarah Welch: My sources indicate 1799 as well. They also say that she managed the misl on his behalf until he reached adulthood at 18. One source states
"When Raṇjīt Siṅgh came of age, he did away with her control and took power into his own hands. This proved a great shock to her, and she gradually pined away to her end."

Guru Nanak has mentioned in his first composition of Jup Ji Sahib which is recited daily by all practicing Sikhs that all souls are to be treated with care and respect as God is the Giver of all souls.

"The Guru has given me this one understanding: there is only the One, the Giver of all souls. May I never forget Him!", Guru Granth Sahib, 2

Guru Nanak also said that blessings are rained down when the lowly person, regardless of any background are cared for.

"In that place where the lowly are cared for-there, the Blessings of Your Glance of Grace rain down." , Guru Granth Sahib, 15

Guru Nanak also has spoken we need to prize humility above all and thus caste is not an issue.

"One who takes pride in wealth and lands is a fool, blind and ignorant.

One whose heart is mercifully blessed with abiding humility,

O Nanak, is liberated here, and obtains peace hereafter." [Granth Sahib, 278]

Thank you very much for alerting me to this, Apuldram. Yes, the topic ban is still in force; it's indefinite, which means it applies until it's lifted. The user applied on WP:AE to have it lifted, which was declined by the admins there.[1]. He has just returned from a six-month block (note, a self-requested block) and is in fact already violating his topic ban again, as you say. I'm considering what to do about it — theoretically, I should probably block for ban violation, but I think I'll try talking with the user first. Bishonen | talk 18:02, 24 June 2017 (UTC).

Help with Sikh heritage of Pak Punjab

@Apuldram: Hi, i note you take interest in Sikh topics. I've been trying to expand info on Sikh sites in Lahore since the pages are severely lacking despite this being an extremely important city for Sikhs. I created the page Gurdwara Dera Sahib since there was shockingly no page dedicated to such an important shrine. I've also cleaned up the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur page, and improved the Samadhi of Ranjit Singh page a bit by adding better quality pics. I also created the Gurdwara Chowa Sahib page and cleaned up/expanded the Gurdwara Janam Asthan page.

I'd appreciate your help if you get a chance. Specifically for the ranjit Singh samadhi page, and Gurdwara Panja Sahib. I intend to eventually create a page for Gurdwara Rohri Sahib in Eminabad, and Gurdwara Janam Asthan Guru Ramdas in Lahore, though would appreciate help in this regard too.Willard84 (talk) 16:24, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Useful skill

@Home Lander: I noticed you mass reverted a user who had added advertising to a large number of articles. That looks like a useful ability. Can you point me at a guide on how to do that? Hi there. View the contents of this page, and add the content to your common.js page. When you view a user's contributions page (like Special:Contributions/Away Lander - this is my alt account), you will see "more" next to the "TW" option at the top. Click "rollback all" and it will ask for a reason, then accept it. Just be sure you're rollbacking the correct account, or it'll go awry real quick! Kashmir currently includes the Indian-administered territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Pakistani-administered territories of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Chinese-administered territories of Aksai Chin and the Trans-Karakoram Tract.
