Abbreviation

Dunno, but I've seen articles starting with "Nonproprietary-name (Manufacturer) is a drug...", with "Nonproprietary-name (Trade name) is a drug...", and with "Nonproprietary-name (former code) is a drug...", and I like to err on the side of clarity (especially because we're writing for laypeople). --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 15:02, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Cedrene Isomers

You state here [2] that there are other cedrene isomers beyond α and β. I have never seen reference to this anywhere. Could you cite a source? Beakerboy (talk) 14:14, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

I meant that there are other chemical structures of cedrene isomers (at least (+)-α-cedrene and (−)-β-cedrene), not necessarily that they occur in nature or have been synthesised. As I couldn't find any sources, the phrasing "there are two isomers of cedrene in nature" (or similar) would have been inappropriate. Can you come up with a clearer phrasing? What is your definition of a "cedrene isomer"? If you think it's any compound with a chemical formula C15H24 then there are many Sesquiterpenes which meet this criteria. The way I believe it is meant is..."There are two chemicals compounds which go by the name cedrene ((+)-α-cedrene and (−)-β-cedrene), and they are isomers of one another". I would think that any other chemicals with a similar structure would not be called cedrene, because they do not occur in the ceder tree. Beakerboy (talk) 17:31, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

I don't think that any compound with the same formula is a cedrene, but the enantiomers (should they exist or be synthesised or discovered) would be called cedrenes, given usual practices. I know this is somewhat nitpicky. Maybe I'll come up with a better phrasing based on what you wrote above. --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 07:23, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

So my confusion wass, I thought you were referring to the α versus β and implying that there are other isomers(like a γ-cedrene or something), when you meant the existence of (+)-α or (-)-β. I like the new version.Beakerboy (talk) 15:01, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Math templates

Hi, assuming the southern England IP edits were yours, I fear you might be wasting your time supplanting ((mvar|x)) s with ((math|"x")) .... I am supplanting }s with )s to avoid activating the templates, here.....

They are synonyms in WP compiler usage, as long as only one character is involved... mvar is a quick way to avoid the single quotes italicizing the character inside math... Sorting disambiguation pages

This particular disambig page seems pretty badly sorted/grouped already so it's hard to say where the Robertson–Walker metric should go. That's why I didn't revert the edit -- my message was more of a general heads-up. Formula fontification

Perhaps it would be worth finding someone who could create a bot for automating formula fontification. It might take awhile to get through all >10000 chemicals by hand.  :) Also, this type of fontification probably shouldn't be done for inorganic compounds because it uses Hill notation which preferred only for organic compounds, not inorganic compounds. I was doing it on a half-automated basis, the idea being that I could do some other fixes on the fly. (Not very successfully, though.) Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. Different spellings

It is just recently that I realized that "rifampicin" and "rifampin" are the same (one being the INN the other being the USAN). And of course are different than "rifapentine" and "rifabutin". Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 21:16, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
