SummerSlam (2014)

I am truly sorry but I was trying to help actually. Yesterday when I opened Summerslam 2014 on Wikipedia, some of the match cards were vandalised e.g instead of John Cena vs Brock Lesnar it was Cena vs Batista and even a completely absurd match up featuring CM Punk taking on Daniel Bryan. I corrected all this but after I corrected Rusev vs Jack Swagger, I couldn't put "Flag match" in a the stipulation side so I mistakenly erased it all, hoping that someone would correct it. Thank you anyways for notifying me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Farrukhsalar16 (talkcontribs) 07:42, 16 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Draft:Crown Group (Crown Group Holdings Pty Ltd) (August 15)

Hi Anupmehra, I was hoping you might be able to assist me to ensure my Wikipedia article is accepted. You declined my submission at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Crown_Group_(Crown_Group_Holdings_Pty_Ltd) Are you able to assist me to ensure it is accepted and demonstrates a more neutral tone. Thanks, Dominique August 18 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dominique Kuhne (talkcontribs) 22:59, 17 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi Dominique - Yes, I certainly will. The subject appears to be notable for inclusion on Wikipedia. There at present I find only two problem with the draft, one is -promotional tone and the other, original research. Wikipedia neutral point of view guideline explains in detail how should a Wikipedia article ideally be written about. In short, it says..articles should be written without biases presenting significant views published in multiple reliable sources. As a fix, I'd suggest you to start from scratch and re-write only what has been published in reliable sources not what do you personally think of subject. I may edit the draft to write a section or two to illustrate what do really Wikipedia expects for. In the meanwhile, you may continue improving the draft. Anupmehra -Let's talk! 04:13, 18 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Anupmehra,
Thank you for the quick response. If you could edit some of the draft as an example that would be fantastic.
In the meantime, I will continue to work on it.
In terms of the original research, I have have presented mainstream newspapers - considered a reliable source by Wikipedia.
There are no peer reviewed, or other academic sources otherwise to note on this topic.
If I referenced more of the information would I be more likely to have this piece accepted?
Thank you very much for your assistance - I am a first-time contributor. Thanks, Dominique
  • @Dominique Kuhne: - I need some time to read sources, so I could write a paragraph or two, because -information present in Wikipedia articles must be based on information present in secondary, independent and reliable sources. Let me make it clear what Wikipedia meant by original research, -"if one reliable source says A, and another reliable source says B, do not join A and B together to imply a conclusion C that is not mentioned by either of the sources". Also, please note that, -despite the need to attribute content to reliable sources, you must not copy-paste because doing would be a copyright violation and may constitue plagiarism. Articles should be written in your own words while substantially retaining the meaning of the source material. Hope, it does help.
As a side note, when you leave a reply to a message on a talk page, please edit the section header rather than making a new section (click "edit" that appears on right hand side). And remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). It'd generate your signature with date and time. Anupmehra -Let's talk! 04:54, 18 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai

Hi This is regarding the writers of yeh rishta kya kehlata hai page. Yesterday I had added another writers name in the list who has been writing this show for past 2 & a half years consistently &the name has been removed without any citation. This was disgusting. This writer has written over 700 episodes of this serial & before that many more serials like Saas bina sasural & shree & many more. She has also been a consistent writer with Hats Off productions.

Her name is Munisha Rajpal. I request you to add on the page.

Deepan Sivaraman

Hi Anupmehra, Thanks for helping me to post the article on Deepan Sivaraman. I know the article doesn't have much of content at present and I would like to improve it with your help. There are plenty of articles and documentation available on his works but I am very bad at editing wiki pages especially when it comes into links and references. Since he is a theatre maker I thought to add some pictures of his most notable works into the section of his works. But unfortunately I only manage to post them to Wiki commons and I failed to add that to his page. There are three images of his works, Spinal Cord, Peer Gynt and Ubu Roi and also I managed to upload an image of him. Can you please look into this matter. Hey Anupmehra I have just came to know that you have declined to accept my submission of article request of a draft named as WHitehats LLC.....You have mentioned poor referencing but i guess i have used the reference not only from the website of Whitehats but also have used independent sources like reuters and itp.net (one of the most reliable source of IT news in UAE). My sandbox was even accepted by another reviewer but you didn't seem to be convinced enough to approve it to become a regular article. Help is needed to get this article published Anxiously waiting for your reply

Neo498 06:52, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

  • Hi Neo498 - Yes, I've declined your draft for reasons given in the 'pink decline box' on top of the draft. As you are here, I'd summarize the reason here, for better understanding. The issue here is not, 'poor referencing', but notability. "Whitehats LLC" does not appear to have significant coverage in multiple reliable sources that are independent of the subject. It may be notable but notability is not well established in the draft, given the lack of multiple third-party, reliable sources. The draft is heavily based on primary sources and there currently are only two secondary, reliable sources cited in the draft. We need 'multiple', please find two or three more and cite them in the draft and press 're-submit'. I'm not sure, who 'reviewer' approved your sandbox. Beside notability issue, I also noticed that the draft in present shape does not read neutral. Hope, it does help. Cheers! Anupmehra -Let's talk! 07:06, 30 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Edits on Trinidad and Tobago

Hello,

If you are the person who removed my edits on Trinidad and Tobago, I think that you need to do some studying of the island nation before you choose to correct others. Trinidad and Tobago are NOT islands of the Lesser Antilles. They are NOT volcanic islands. Trinidad is actually geologically and geographically a part of South America, as it sits on the continental shelf of South America. Though it is politically associated with and considered part of the Caribbean, it is not geographically and geologically part of South America, not North America. I am not sure why Wikipedia allows people to edit, and then rejects the edit especially when the information being provided on the site is incorrect and misleading. Please advise, or have the corrections made to the page on Trinidad.

These were my edits: 1. " Included politically as part of the Caribbean, Trinidad actually sits on the continental shelf of South America and is not a volcanic island, as are the nearby islands of the Lesser Antilles."

2. Under the Heading of Geography it should read:

"Trinidad and Tobago are situated between 10° 2' and 11° 12' N latitude and 60° 30' and 61° 56' W longitude." It should not read as stated on the Wikipedia page, "Trinidad and Tobago are southeasterly islands of the Antilles". Trinidad and Tobago are not geologically islands of the Lesser Antilles or the Greater Antilles. The islands of the Lesser Antilles are volcanic or coral. Trinidad is neither volcanic or coral. It is continental rock of South America.

https://www.princeton.edu/~achaney/tmve/wiki100k/docs/Geography_of_Trinidad_and_Tobago.html "Geologically, the islands are not part of the Antillean arc. Rather, Trinidad was once part of the South American mainland and is situated on its continental shelf, and Tobago is part of a sunken island arc chain related to the Pacific-derived Caribbean Plate. The islands are separated from the continent of South America by the Gulf of Paria; Dragon's Mouth, a 19-kilometer (11.8 mi)-wide northern passage; and Serpent's Mouth, a 14-kilometer (8.7 mi)-wide southern passage.

Trinidad is traversed by three distinct mountain ranges that are a continuation of the Venezuelan coastal cordillera. The Northern Range, an outlier of the Andes Mountains of Venezuela, consists of rugged hills that parallel the coast. This range rises into two peaks. The highest, El Cerro del Aripo, is 940 meters (3,084 ft) high; the other, El Tucuche, reaches 936 meters. The Central Range extends diagonally across the island and is a low-lying range with swampy areas rising to rolling hills; its maximum elevation is 325 meters (1,066 ft). The Caroni Plain, composed of alluvial sediment, extends southward, separating the Northern Range and Central Range. The Southern Range consists of a broken line of hills with a maximum elevation of 305 meters (1,001 ft)."

@Codename Lisa: - I'm feeling that, above message is related to Zoho Office Suite. I'm not sure, how does consent of one editor to another editor affects Wikipedia policy and guidelines and contents of a Wikipedia article. We go by consensus, and build encyclopedia collaboratively. I'm not agree with the tone and contents of the article, because it violates NPOV and V, two Wikipedia core policies. I'm also not agree, that maintenance tags are an excuse. I've edited the article to make it comply Wikipedia standards. I've to undone changes made by you. I'm not perfect, If there's something you find wrong with my editing to the article, please raise it on the respective article's talk page. I give you a hint: Instead of feeling, try reading the message title!
If you don't agree with the tone, change it! What you are doing is called mass content removal (an instance of vandalism) and edit warring. It is neither support by policy nor by consensus. Although I love to avoid these when communicating with an established editor, such as yourself, never for one second imagine that I am oblivious to the extent of damage you are inflicting.

@Santhoshsum1spcl: - First, the Wikipedia article Savukku is about 'www.savukku.net' not any other. We need reliable source(s) that say/s the same what you claim for, as such, Times of India, The Hindu, The Indian Express, India Today, etc. If TOI or similar ones say, savukku.net is a Tamil and English website, we'd write the same.
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a publisher of personal opinion(s). Also, beside language of the website, please do not make any attempt to change original url address because it'd be undid sooner or later by any Wikipedia editor for not being in compliance with Wikipedia verifiability policy and you'll be warned on your talk page.
Please do not get yourself blocked by repeatedly making changes that are not in accordance with Wikipedia guidelines. small extra note about helping

Often it is best not to offer help about images, even if that is the first thing that the questioner asks about. Image licensing is far too complicated to just give a link or offer one piece of advice. Too many questions - did they take the photo themselves, did they inherit the copyright from a relative, did the relative die 100 years ago (if so then public domain!), do they own the copyright because it was a work for hire, is it a logo of a company or organisation or etc., might it be public domain anyway because it is just a simple combination of basic typefaces and a symbol, might it be public domain as the work of a U.S. federal employee or similar, and so on...! Different answers to various of these questions result in different things they should do next. Best to ask them to get their Draft approved first, then after approval we will help with logos and things. In particular, most company logos cannot be uploaded until the Draft is approved. Images will not help a Draft be approved, but we can all help with images after the Draft is approved. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 23:14, 14 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Yes, I agree that the 'copyright' is much more complicated thing that it actually appears to be. There are many pitfalls. I'm assuming that, this message is about a question asked by a newbie editor and my answer to it. For me, it was just a question, and I believe, WP:COPYRIGHT, WP:NFCC and WP:UPI may be a good start for one to learn 'uploading images on Wikipedia'. I was just making them learn, 'how to upload images on Wikipedia'. However, it'd not help the draft to reach any value of inclusion criteria. I agree with all the lines of you. Happy editing! Please stop removing the truth from reality. The article has reliable sources, Communication Arts!!!!!! FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!!!! AND OTHERS!!! WHAT SOURCES DO YOU WANT???? WHY IS COMMUNICATION ARTS, THE MOST IMPORTANT PUBLICATION IN THE DESIGN WORLD NOT VALID??? WHY IS THIS NOT VALID: http://www.theportlandegotist.com/news/local/2011/january/29/portland-work-lulus-chocolates-pixelface WHY IS THE FACT THAT ITS SITTING ON THE SHELF AT WHOLE FOODS NOT VALID???????

Yelling isn't going to help. When you arrived at this private website, you agreed to certain policies - notability being one of them. Accusing people of things doesn't help. Yelling and screaming because you failed to create an article, or even a draft article that meets basic requirements does not help. the panda ₯’ 22:33, 18 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Why was this article deleted? She is very notable in her field - I dont understand since I rewrote the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eliasblisters (talkcontribs) 22:32, 18 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

I do not understand why Communication Arts Magazine is not considered notable? The Egotist is also a national magazine, again notable.

Ramadog2369 (talk) 22:44, 18 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker)Not everything written about in notable publications is itself therefore notable. Read WP:NOTCONTAGIOUS. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:50, 19 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

I doubt you read the article thoroughly or at all because it is very obvious that JOAN is a woman (as repeatedly mentioned in her bio, awards etc) yet you refer to her as John and use male pronouns...... Also for someone who is a playwright, having press releases is valid endorsement. I linked to a wide variety of sources and her links are very thoroughly documented. I need help in fully creating this page too....which is why having endorsement to get it published is important. she was the principal playwright for an extremely important theatre company for decades as you would see if you read the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eliasblisters (talkcontribs) 08:19, 19 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker)Press releases are by definition efforts at promotion, and inherently unreliable, as lacking the requisite neutral point of view. --Orange Mike | Talk 12:35, 19 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I would like to ascertain that the article is maintaining NPOV well and is not promotional. Could you please take a look? Also, since I'm not a native English speaker I would appreciate if you could point me to any language/grammar issues that you think should be fixed (in case you have a possibility I would really appreciate if you could correct them in my sandbox). The link is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Dmatteng/Sandbox/1. Dmatteng (talk) 16:23, 19 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Dmatteng - The article in sandbox reads blatantly promotional to me (like a press-release). However, the subject is not something of my interests that'd attract me to contribute about. I'd just say write only 'what matters' and cut off the 'reception' section a little short or say by half. And neither am I, a native English speaker. I think, I still would be making few edits in your sandbox. Anupmehra -Let's talk! 05:52, 20 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Really? I thought I did a good job to reflect the reliable sources and list available critisism. I have modeled the article after HTC (M7) which is GA article and has somewhat similarly long reception section. I'll be appreciative if you will take a look again. Such as, I dont think that promotional article would include information that the UI is inelegant right in the lede. Thank you for your comment. Dmatteng (talk) 14:07, 20 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
@Dmatteng: - I just had a look again. There's a more serious issue than NPOV, copyright violation. The sandbox page is nothing but a copyright infringement of multiple sources, including Cnet and The Gadgeteer. A report of the violation may be found here. Unfortunately, I've to nominate it for speedy deletion for copyvio. Not only copy-paste but 'close paraphrasing' also does constitute copyright violation. Anupmehra -Let's talk! 17:45, 23 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hello, could you please take another look on the reports? The reports ignored quotes. For the cases of close paraphrasing, I would like to identify them and rewrite. That is reason I have asked your help, (prior to posting the article in the mainspace) to ensure that the article will comply with the guidelines. P.S. I have noted your proposal of editing and shortening the Reception section, and I will do it. Dmatteng (talk) 20:27, 23 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Argh, it appears that someone has deleted the page in the meanwhile before I could take off the copyvio tag. Perhaps it is just because, Wikipedia take copyright violations very seriously (doesn't matter whether it is in the mainspace, draft or in userspace or some else where on Wikipedia). I'd suggest you have a look at Wikipedia guide on copy-paste and make a new start, that'd not contain any copyright infringement. Anupmehra -Let's talk! 05:23, 24 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Anup

Hi Anup...

I was informed that the entry i created on the ngo arpan that works on CSA in Mumbai was copied from betterindia.org. I only picked the impact from there. I have assembled the article taking one or two sentences from various articles across the internet and by giving citations at proper places. do let me know if anythying is seriously wrong with my methodology. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pocketwhiskey (talkcontribs) 13:27, 20 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Pocketwhiskey - Sorry, for late reply but I'm kind of busy these days around. And, yes, there's a serious issue with your 'methodology of contribution' to Wikipedia. Don't copy-paste or closely paraphrase the contents from copyrighted source/s, write it in your own words substantially retaining the meaning of the original contents. Please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia copyright policy and guideline on copy-pasting contents from other sources. Wikipedia is a free-content encyclopedia, it is free to be edited, distributed and reproduced when attribution is provided to the contributor/s. We've to make sure, that content we are providing to our readers and users are compatible to the Wikipedia copyright policy. Anupmehra -Let's talk! 18:20, 23 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Shriswara, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Vogue. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi Anup,

My article has been declined in Wiki, later i added some more references to my article, I would like to know what else i can do to improve it. Thanks in advance

Alimoddin (talk) 12:14, 22 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Alimoddin - We need multiple reliable sources, independent of the magazine that discuss 'The Dollar Business magazine' in some detail, at least in two paragraphs. All information in Wikipedia articles should be attributed to secondary, independent and reliable sources (WP:V), -otherwise one may not be able to write a neutral article given that primary and affiliated sources would have an obvious biases towards the subject. Please have a look at the similar article, Vogue India and the sources cited in there, -we are looking for some similar ones into yours. Anupmehra -Let's talk! 08:20, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Tariq Hameed Karra

The article Tariq Hameed Karra has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one.  Done -subject is a member of parliament. It'd take less than 2 minutes to Google a reliable source and replace the dead link. I guess, there should be around 350 more similar articles on newly elected members to the parliament, having the same source (that's now dead). Please notify me some other way (a ping or a custom message?), instead prodding them. Cheers! Anupmehra -Let's talk! 05:09, 24 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

How to make the home colours and away colours of football clubs in Wikipedia?

Can you kindly tell me the steps to make the home and away colours of football clubs in Wikipedia. Thanks, Alhosniomani20 Alhosniomani20 (talk) 19:44, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Alhosniomani20 -I'm sorry but I'm not specialized in football related articles. However, I'm able to find few helpful links that answer the question very closely, if not exactly, with the help of another editor Revent. There are few parameters in the Template:Infobox football club that enable one to create such colours (home or away), as kit_alt1, kit_alt2, and so on. For details on kit_alt parameters used in the 'infobox football club' template, please see Template:Football kit. It appears that you may be able to form a new type using this template, such as, a new colour combination and a new pattern. It is a little bit complex though and I still may unable to answer any follow up questions. I'd advise you to ask the related questions on WT:WikiProject Football, so that editors involved there may assist you much better than I could with related queries. Draft:Southeast Asian Flavors: Adventures in cooking the foods of Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia & Singapore

Hi Anupmehra,

Since this is my first time posting on Wikipedia and the subject is a book, and it has been rejected for the references, which do not adequately evidence the subject's notability. However, I have cited some reliable sources yet it's still got rejected. I am a bit confused on this, could you explain a bit more. Thank you very much
