"it's very scary that three people endorsed a response in less than a minute" edit

Apparently they're all collaborating on IRC, if SPUI's outside view is correct. --NE2 23:12, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Of course they are. Assuming that people who act like that are collaborating on IRC stopped being a wild conspiracy theory a loong time ago. -Amarkov moo! 23:13, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Assuming that's sarcasm, what exactly are you saying? That I've fallen victim to a hoax? --NE2 23:16, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
No, that isn't sarcasm. People collaborate on IRC (or some other chat program, same difference). A lot. These people may not in fact be doing so, but there's no reason to assume that. -Amarkov moo! 23:19, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Meaning no reference to any specific dispute here, of course WP actions, especially malicious ones, are coordinated on IRC. As you observe, Amarkov, this ceased being a wild conspiracy a long time ago.Proabivouac 23:24, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't know why "especially malicious ones" are coordinated on IRC. We have official IRC channels for lots of things, and I doubt anyone's so silly as to expect us to believe that no coordination goes on there. -Amarkov moo! 23:29, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Because the more questionable the motivations (or faulty the logic,) the more reason participants have to hide them from recoverable scrutiny. IRC-based decision making denies targets the ability to respond before everyone has made up his/her mind, and provides a place to trash the reputation of established contributors without them having any idea what's going on until it's too late. Of course, there are good reasons to user IRC, but the longer you hang around, the more you'll see just how abused this is. Yet I can recall only one situation in which anyone was held to account, and then only sort of.Proabivouac 23:36, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Miltopia AN/I comment edit

If I read you right, I think you and I are on the same page. If Miltopia's banned, so should MONGO, and if not MONGO, then not Miltopia. I posted suport of THAT idea on the page. If I've misinterpreted you, please let me know so I can adjust my comment? And if I read it right, I'm right there with you. thanks. ThuranX 23:49, 26 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's not necessarily an "all or none" case, but the standards being applied to Miltopia, if applied to him, would most certainly have resulted in a ban a long time ago. -Amarkov moo! 23:50, 26 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
No, it's rarely open and shut when it comes to popularly contentious editors, but yes, I think we're in harmony. Block one, block the other. Block only one, then it's a bad block. Frankly, I'd like to see both deep six'd and wikidrama down 5% per month. LOL.ThuranX 23:51, 26 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Because you are continually incivil to those who you disagree with, and more importantly, you justify this by saying that the people you're incivil to are all trolling or otherwise disruptive. -Amarkov moo! 03:19, 27 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I wasn't aware of that fully. I don't agree with assessment that I am continually incivil though..that seems very broad, to be honest.--MONGO 03:25, 27 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia talk:Requests for arbitration‎ edit

You didn't actually expect something would be done, did you? We can't expect arbitrators who acknowledge there's a problem to accept a case that would examine that problem, can we? Well, I thought we could, but I guess not. It seems some things never change. - auburnpilot talk 23:36, 21 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not only that, but people on both sides, including MONGO himself, think the case is necessary. Arbitrator discretion of acceptance is supposed to be so that people can't bring spurious, unneded cases. Not so that they can refuse to do their job when it's too hard. -Amarkov moo! 02:19, 22 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your recent RfA edit

Sorry, but I've closed Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Amarkov 3 a bit early; it was quite obvious that it wasn't going to pass at all (with it having a final tally of 3/15/0). On the plus side, you've got a fairly clear roadmap for what you need to work on for your next RfA... EVula // talk // // 05:33, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I got an edit conflict from him closing it, when I was trying to close it myself. I overwrote his close, as I felt this would be better closed by a bureaucrat. Since it had no chance of succeeding at this time, I withdrew it. Please consider the opposes, and feel free to reapply in the future when you feel you have addressed them. Good luck. --Deskana (talk) 05:37, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

SSP TTN edit

The courtesy blanking was done to reduce the emotional distress that this page is apparently causing. The protection is temporary and in place to also help reduce the distress from this page. No immediate edits should be needed on that page, as it is already closed. The blanking is simply a new revision, with all of the information safely stored in the revision table in case anyone really wants to read it again. As per the MFD, if User talk:TTN wants this unblanked, then I support that, they seem to have gotten on with the business of writing the encyclopedia, can't the rest of us? — xaosflux Talk 06:57, 21 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

But nobody's provided any evidence of emotional distress; only claims that TTN might want the page courtesy blanked. And I really don't appreciate the "go on with editing the encyclopedia"; I'm not going to just ignore any problems that I have. -Amarkov moo! 05:36, 22 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Elonka 3 edit

Thank you for your participation in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate that landed on WP:100, but ultimately was deemed a successful declaration of consensus, and I am now an admin. :) I definitely paid close attention to everything that was said in the debate, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm going to take it slow for now -- I'm working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school, carefully double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are a few more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status. Have a good new year, --Elonka 01:59, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
