United states UAV seizure by Iran edit

Hi, I'm not sure whether this topic really justifies its own article at present. I've restored the material you removed from the Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentinel and started a discussion of this at Talk:Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentinel#Separate article for the Iranian incident?. I've also removed the photo from the seizure article as you didn't add a fair use claim for it. Regards, Nick-D (talk) 10:09, 10 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

if anybody can suggest better title, I have no complain.Alborzagros (talk) 10:16, 10 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've just moved the article back to its previous name. There's a discussion of what to call it on the article's talk page, and 'Downing of United States' RQ-170 by armed forces of Iran' hasn't even been proposed. The title also has obvious POV problems given that the US claims that the UAV malfunctioned rather than was downed by the Iranians, and no-one can prove who's telling the truth. Military conflict infobox edit

Hi. I'm just wondering why you re-added the military conflict infobox to the RQ-170 article. It seems inappropriate to me as the article does not describe anything that could be considered a military conflict. Cheers TigerShark (talk) 15:04, 14 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

The usage description for the infobox says: "A military conflict infobox (sometimes referred to as a warbox) may be used to summarize information about a particular military conflict (a battle, campaign, war, or group of related wars) in a standard manner." and I'm not clear how this incident falls within that definition or why the infobox would be suitable otherwise. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Heliconius melpomene edit

If you mistakenly create an AfD page and catch your mistake shortly after making it, as you did at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Heliconius melpomene, you are allowed to tag it for G7 (author requests deletion) or G6 (housekeeping). I have gone ahead and done this for you. Blanking the discussion and leaving a comment actually makes it harder for uninvolved users to catch and correct the mistake, as it makes your comment appear to be a part of the discussion above it on the AfD log. Let me know if you have any questions. —KuyaBriBriTalk 14:48, 6 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

A tag has been placed on Persian Toon requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. What do you think you are doing... edit

...edit warring on the article on the main page[1]. Not even an edit summary to explain yourself. Please follow WP:BRD. SpinningSpark 13:51, 2 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Adding to the above, the infobox you added here gave Henle as Bird's 'doctoral advisor' and give a misleading alma mater and got the work institution and death place wrong. Could you please take more care when adding that sort of material? Like Spinningspark, I don't think an infobox is needed, but I'm more concerned that you got several things so wrong there. If you have a citation for Henle as doctoral advisor, or even that Bird studied for a doctorate, please say so on the article talk page (Talk:Golding Bird) where I've started a section. May 2012 edit

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Golding Bird. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. SpinningSpark 09:17, 17 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Crew sock edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Crew sock requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Lorestan Cave image edit

Hi, I'm fascinated by the photo of a 9,000 year old cave painting of horse and rider from Lorestan which you uploaded last month. This would seem to support the early domestication date from Al-Maqar, pushing the generally accepted date back almost 4,000 years. Could you please tell me where you sourced this image from, and where I can read about the evidence indicating the age of the painting? Thanks very much! — JEREMY 01:33, 7 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Silhouette edit

Yes, everyone who has ever used a camera has at least one silhouette photograph, and every single one of them has inserted it in that article.

You are not exactly a new editor, but I'm leaving you my advice for new editors.

In the case of the "Silhouette" article, you'll find that there are a collection of pictures by Wiki Contributors at the foot of the page. Your picture obviously did nothing to complement the very carefully selected traditional image at the TOP of the page that accompanied the historical perspective. It clashed visually with what was there, it didn't fit comfortably on a wide screen and it was not an image of any historical significance, like the majority of those in the body of the article.

AJM's advice to new editors edit

  • Look at the article to see how it is laid out. The Table of Contents is the best place to start.
  • Read the article to see if what you want to add or remove is appropriate, necessary, or adds value.
  • Search for the right place to put it.
  • Check Use the "Show Preview" to make sure that what you have done is appropriate and correct.
  • Discuss any change about which you are uncertain, by placing your proposed text, or just a suggestion, on the talk page. Someone who watches the article will usually answer in a day or so. You can monitor this by clicking the watch tag at the top of the page.
  • Be aware
    • that an addition inserted between two sentences or paragraphs that are linked in meaning can turn the existent paragraphs into nonsense.
    • that a lengthy addition or the creation of a new sub-section can add inappropriate weight to just one aspect of a topic.

When adding images

  • Look to see if the subject of your image is already covered. Don't duplicate subject matter already present. Don't delete a picture just to put in your own, unless your picture is demonstrably better for the purpose. The caption and nearby text will help you decide this.
  • Search through the text to find the right place for your image. If you wish it to appear adjacent to a particular body of text, then place it above the text, not at the end of it.
  • Look to see how the pictures are formatted. If they are all small thumbnails, do not size your picture at 300 px. The pictures in the article may have been carefully selected to follow a certain visual style e.g. every picture may be horizontal, because of restricted space; every picture might be taken from a certain source, so they all match. Make sure your picture looks appropriate in the context of the article.
  • Read the captions of existent pictures, to see how yours should fit in.
  • Check the formatting, placement, context and caption before you leave the page by using the Show preview function, and again after saving.
  • Discuss If your picture seems to fill a real identifiable need in the article, but doesn't fit well, because of formatting or some other constraint, then put it on the talk page and discuss, before adding.
  • Be aware that adding a picture may substantially change the layout of the article. Your addition may push another picture out of its relevant section or cause some other formatting problem.
  • Edit before adding. Some pictures will look much better, or fit an article more appropriately if they are cropped to show the relevant subject.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Iran Mexico Locator.png) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Iran Mexico Locator.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:19, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
