While this is not ment as a criticism of the article, which is very good, I was thinking of merging, I think the article is redundant. The person is barely notable, and he is known for one event only, the failed 1963 Syrian coup d'état... Wouldn't it be wiser to delete, or move the article and create and article for failed 1963 coup? You could say that two articles are notable, but those articles would be highly identical, since writings on the coup are scarce to begin with... I have to disagree. While his 1963 coup attempt against the Baath is arguably the most notable part of his life, his biography warrants an article on its own. He led a prior failed pro-UAR coup in 1962 from Aleppo, Homs and Deir ez-Zor (joined by Hamad Ubayd, Umran, and Luay Atassi) and his role as commander of the Qatana base during the UAR period is interesting. Furthermore, his evasion of and eventual capture by the authorities following his failed 1963 coup, the deliberations surrounding his trial and pardon, and the opposition role he played following his exile, including collaboration with the guy who stamped out his coup (Amin al-Hafiz), his return to Syria after reconciliation with the regime and the alleged attack against him during the civil war are all notable. Also, I think while he was a military instructor, Shishakli tasked him to groom and promote Sunni officers and keep out Alawites, Ismailis and Druze from the mid-level corps (I don't have full access to the source though).

However, I have no problem moving general/redundant information out of the "1963 coup attempt" section into the main 1963 coup article. Afterward, we could add a hatnote to the section linking "See also 1963 Syrian coup d'état#Immediate aftermath". --Al Ameer (talk) 01:48, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Nasser follow-up

I haven't been able to keep up with your Nasser edits, especially as the section rearrangements make a mess of the diffs and would require re-readings of entire sections. You've done great, diligent work as I've followed it for over a month, and I've enjoyed working with you. Thank you Czar, I greatly appreciate your efforts, which I believe have significantly enhanced the quality of the article and its readability. I know I've been jumbling the text a bit, but I've tried to be careful of maintaining the quality in the process. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, as far as college is concerned, having less available time as the year progresses. I nominated the article for A-class a week ago. Hopefully it passes, but whatever the outcome, I'll nominate it for FAC when the review is complete. If there's anything specific I feel would benefit from your attention, I'll certainly let you know. Cheers!

1956 referendums

Tabbouleh and its categories

Hi htere. You should look at things from the point of view of a reader who does know anything in the subject, except wishes to search for lebanese food articles from within Category:Lebanese cuisine. Perhaps for that reason alone, that category (as well as the Arab cuisine one) should be in the article, and not the parent category, which, frankly, rather fewer people even realize pertains to Lebanon. --04:13, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Turan-shah

Hi Al Ameer son thanks for looking at the changes I made on the Turan-shah page. Since making my edit I've realised that I need to create a disambiguation page to distinguish between Shams ad-Din Turanshah and al Muazzam Turanshah. Once I have done that I will go back to the Turan-shah page and amend the spellings. The Turan-shah spelling is nonstandard and a disambiguation page would be useful for encyclopedia users, I think. I will also be adding pages on other Ayyubid rulers over the next few months. Then on to the Fatimids.........

Bitar, Nasserite coalition cabient

I've finished the section on the coalition government, you can begin you're work on the planned "Cabinet of Syria (March 1963–May 1963)" now, if you want. However, it would prefer the title, "Bitar's first cabinet"... Which is more normal, see Blair ministry, Stoltenberg's Second Cabinet, Second Merkel cabinet etc etc etc.. Nice work with Bitar. I'm actually having second thoughts about starting that article, at least for the time being, since it lasted only for a couple months. It's still relatively notable though. I started Abd al-Wahhab Hawmad and am working on Hani al-Hindi. After I finish with the latter and Nihad al-Qasim, I might start the article, although it'll pretty much be a table listing the ministers, their portfolios and party affiliations. We need to create articles on Yusuf al-Zu'ayyin, Ibrahim Makhus and Ahmed al-Suwaydani sometime in the future as well since they seem to be have been relatively important officials. --Al Ameer (talk) 18:23, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

Honestly, when it comes to the Ba'ath, Wikipedia is missing way to many entries, just look at the lists for Syrian RC and the Iraqi RC.. Would there be a point of creating the RC for the Jordanese and the Lebanese Ba'ath prior to the 23rd February 1966.. John Devlin lists all the known members... WP is currently missing an entry on Ali Salih al-Sadi, probably one of the most important figures of early, pre-23 February 1966 Ba'ath history... But I think we should focus primarily on the bigger articles for the time being, considering that the articles on Bitar, Hafiz, Jadid, Assad, Jundi etc are in bad shape. --TIAYN (talk) 19:45, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

Check-in

Hey—I've continued to follow your Nasser work sporadically from afar and it's good stuff. I was going through your A-class review when something hit me that I thought you'd appreciate. I remembered that during the copyedit you would hide {{harvnb}} templates inside ref tags and I didn't think twice about it since I didn't use those types of footnotes. I have since been using {{sfn}}, which is the same except that you don't have to hide the template in a ref tag because it auto-generates a footnote. What's more is that repeated uses of the same page are grouped, so you don't have to manually manage every instance of Aburish p. 23 and can just use the short footnote template everywhere and it'll take care of grouping multiple instances of the same author and page. Anyway, this may save you considerable bits and some sanity if you so choose to reformat Nasser's refs (or for future projects). Take care czar ♔ 23:59, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Syrian towns and villages

Dear, I got your point. However, the removed ones does not reach up to 90% as you have mentioned. But I really find it bulky and useless to include dozens of unsignificant villages within the governorate templates. There should be some agreed boundaries for the template, otherwise anybody cab include any minor village or even a farm in each template.--Zyzzzzzy (talk) 05:25, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
