NRHP Page Name

Hi APK. I saw you added the seealso hatlink to National Register of Historic Places listings in the District of Columbia in the main Washington, D.C. article. Should this article name be changed to "National Register of Historic Place listings in Washington, D.C."? Note that the change would remove the seemingly unnecessary "s" and would bring the title in line with other articles about Washington, D.C. Hey Adam. I prefer your suggestion, but there was a long discussion at WT:NRHP in regards to state/territory listings (a discussion I missed - darn end sarcasm). I also think 'Places listings' sounds odd, but the tribe has spoken. Replacing 'District of Columbia' with 'Washington, D.C.' might have a better shot. It might be a good idea to raise the question at Talk:National Register of Historic Places listings in the District of Columbia. If others disagree, then redirecting the hatlink title on Washington, D.C. (with the wording you suggested) would be the best option. Hope you're enjoying the holiday weekend!

Looking at the issue further, I think the extra "s" is included because the official name of the registry is the "National Register of Historic Places", so Wikipedians are just using the official title, even though it seems strange in a title. No problem. I was patrolling recent changes and noticed the situation. I'm not familiar with the subject, so my _{generic, but best} suggestion is to reach a compromise on the talk page. If someone is adding questionable links, original research, or dubious claims, then it should be mentioned on the talk page (along with links to WP policies/guidlines to show why it's unacceptable; the other user may not be aware of those policies since he/she has only made 12 edits). It's actually an edit war that has spilled out over to other pages. The parties involved are me, and a band of forum members; apparently the game's community wants to keep the articles bloated, and as a result, a thread was made and now they're trying to shape the articles to their liking as opposed to Wikipedia's. The main parties involved on the other side of the argument are unresponsive and have flat-out stated that they don't care about the rules, and I've already involved one administrator, that is why the Starsiege:_Tribes article has been protected - When you're facing anonymous IPs and fans organized from the game's community, it seems best just to protect the page since they're unresponsive. To be honest, I can't keep the articles clean, I'm just one guy while they're lord knows how many scores of people. I need a third opinion

Fallen_Empire:_Legions has fallen victim to what I can only perceive as vandalism now. I have discussed the reasons for my edit on the talk-page, I have already summerize my reasons in the edit box, too. Basically, other editors want a seperate section for the fact that the movement system in the game is different from that of its predecessors, where I want to add this info to the gameplay section, too keep the article short. Volunteer opportunity in Bethesda, Thursday, July 16

The Wikimedia Foundation will be conducting an all-day Academy at the National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, Maryland, on Thursday, July 16. The team that will be teaching at the Academy, a mix of paid staff and volunteers, is looking for four more volunteers to be teaching assistants, providing one-to-one assistance in workshops whenever a workshop participant has a problem following the instructional directions. (We currently have two editors signed up as teaching assistants, and are looking for a total of six.)

The NIH editing workshops are only for two hours, but volunteers are asked to meet the Wikimedia Foundation team at the hotel in Bethesda at about 7:15 a.m. (time to be finalized shortly) and to stay for the entire day, which ends at 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. (The full schedule can be found here.)

The team is not necessarily looking for expert editors (though they are welcome), just people who can help novices who might get stuck when trying to do some basic things. If you've been an editor for at least 3 months, and have done at least 500 edits, you probably qualify.

If you're interested, please send John Broughton an email. If you might be interested, but would like further information, please post a note on his user talk page, so that he can respond there, and others can see what was asked.

I've been expanding this one from a stub. Would you feel like grabbing any of the images from the PLANTS page again? I'd especially love that drawing of the foliage, since I've got a quote calling the leaf shape distinctive, but you can't really see what the leaves look like in the picture that's on there. No, if I click on the image from your link above, I see it, but I get a box with a red X in it on the article page. I had the same issue with one of the images CoM uploaded for Zanthoxylum americanum and just removed it from the article until you loaded the better resolution image, at which point it worked just fine. APK, needing serious help here..

Hi long time- I appreciate your assistance in uploading photos sometime back. Since then, I've used the Flickr Bryan uploading thing for hundreds of photos. However, on one page, both myself and User: Tvoz found it compelling to email (MY crappy Yahoo account: leah2saints@yahoo.com) and contact Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam's camp for multiple reasons, but two primary ones are the utter non-existance of any GFDL BY-CC-SA photos other than the couple I begged off people there already. (The other, is that a huge, huge website full of 1960s-70's interviews from magazines like Melody Maker and so forth that no longer exist but were once nearly as influential as Rolling Stone -photocopied in entirety- went down, with a lot of references for our GA- ranked article and it's crummy song and album pages on him.. they're working on bringing up the site..) Anyway, that's beside the point. The real question is this: if I can send you, email, postal mail some kind of mail the photos given to me in email from his publicists free and clear, with the email, I suppose (I live in Hyattsville, Maryland now.. heck, I could bring them to your door if needed)- or if you have any idea of how to go about all of this, we need to have the two photos uploaded into Wikimedia Commons and you are really the only one I can think of to ask right at this point. In formal writing, commas usually come in pairs. See my style guide section User:Hlj/CWediting#Locations and follow it to the footnote #1, which has a reference to the Chicago Manual of Style. I think that it is likely you will frequently see singular commas in informal writing and magazines, but Chicago is the Bible for style and punctuation in serious writing such as academic papers, professional magazines, serious nonfiction books, and encyclopedias. Didja get my email? Pretty much I have maybe 6-10 wonderful photographers who will free up any photographs of stuff we need from their Flickr account. Sorry for saying GDFL, I was trying to quickly say images that are either "BY" or "BY-"CC" or "BY-"CC"-"SA" photos. When people with whom I have a good relationship with in that world don't have what a page here needs, I politely ask people there. For every single individual one. I am speaking now of going through all of that for like, hundreds of photos, you can see a bunch of them on my user page by name (the musicians' names whose pics I got and uploaded with the Flickr upload thing by Bryan, who no longer works with Commons and Wikipedia, so no wonder his Flickr to Commons uploader crashed for good. But I'm the type that can't even follow the instructions to set my alarm clock, so, now, I click, "It is another persons' work from Flickr after saving it to my computer, and after that, I have no clue what I am doing. Meanwhile, Cat Stevens' publicist mailed me two very needed photos and I don't know how to upload them. I'm obviously not a trusted user whatever that entails. So.. I need help! I know maybe 2 Admins counting Aleta who have ever really helped me, and my bi-Polar freaking out has probably come close to killing the other Admin by now. Something like that. Even if a hook is on the Main Page, it can be removed if a serious problem is found. The green check approval process makes it easy to choose 7 good hooks for the next update. I let others choose those hooks, so if they agree with your verifiability argument (which strikes me as legalistic and missing the point of the rule), then they will promote the hook. WP:V is normally used to suppress an opinion that can't be cited. It is seldom used in reverse to report as fact an opinion that sounds so wrong it's almost a typo; ordinarily I would think we just wouldn't mention such a report. Suppose the National Academy of Sciences announced the world is flat; Wikipedia wouldn't report flatness as a fact, we would wonder what caused their lapse. The Historic American Buildings Survey reported that the chapel is often called a "miniature Gothic gem". I don't understand why it's so hard to believe. It's not as if they're claiming something outrageous or highly disputed, like the earth being flat. I've removed the quotation marks at T:TDYK, but could change the wording to "has been described as a miniature Gothic gem" if that will put your mind at rest. Sure, "has been described" sounds true; "has often been described" sounds impossible, unless it's a standard epithet like "the Big Apple" for New York City; otherwise, each commenter would describe the chapel in his own words. Doing research for the articles on the Duncans, I came across this interesting tidbit: "With approximately 10% of the UNC Herbarium's 750,000 specimens catalogued to date, we have found over 200 specimens collected by Wilbur Duncan...Duncan collected over 30,000 specimens, often in multiple sets, that he distributed to herbaria around the southeastern United States..."[4] LadyofShalott 02:09, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

I started a dialogue with User:RArt94 about what wikipedia was about and not about and I think that s/he got that edits that led back to (opinion) where s/he worked were very likely to be removed. He has not answered me yet. Meanwhile your poet statue Taras Shevchenko Memorial has got me interested. The artist Leo Mol studied at some Soviet school in Leningrad, then with Arno Breker . Do you know Arno? He was one of Adolph Hitler's favorite sculptors. That's quite a switch, from Stalin to Hitler. Then Mol studies in The Hague in 19943, which if I recall, was then under the Nazi's heel. Then he somehow gets to Canada. Quite a guy, or so it seems. Carptrash (talk) 14:07, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

So the name Leo Mol has been bugging me for a couple of days now, nag, nag, nag, nag, so I finally went wandering through my famous (in a very small pond) collection of sculpture stuff and just discovered a booklet from the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden in Winnipeg. Have not looked at it yet but I going to predict that the biography section will move lightly and swiftly over the early years. Life. What a place to live.
