Ucal

Hi there! I added an {{nn-bio}} tag to the Ucal article. I'm not sure that a single mention of this person in the bible really meets notability requirements, even if it's the bible. I went by the Wikiproject U-Y list. It said it had been pruned so I figured they wanted it on the site. It is also in Eastons 1897 Bible Dictionary so I feel it sould be here. American Patriot 1776 00:57, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

I'm not familiar with the U-Y list, could you provide a link? BTW, per WP:NOT, wikipedia isn't a dictionary, so I'd suggest that better criteria than presence in a bible dictionary should be found. If we're talking about Job or Lot or Eve, I can see an article, but someone like Ucal who shows up for half a sentence might not be a good match. I would like to advise you that the image you nominated for speedy deletion is in fact a commons image, transcluding the image from another Wikimedia site. This explains why it has no history. Wikipedia is also not censored for the protection of minors, so that would be an invalid reason to delete it. -- Natalinasmpf 18:21, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

College infoboxes

Patriot, despite my better efforts it appears that I have become the list police. I don't enjoy "warning" other people but I try to do it before lots of edits are done. I truly appreciate your efforts in working on this and other lists. When I created my first list, the criteria for removal was pretty low, but it seems to have gotten higher with each list because the information available is so much better and the formatting tools are as well. The updated album and film infoboxes were only around for a few months when I created the list and that seemed like a basic yet specific criteria that could be applied before we "checked it off" our list.

The same also seems true with the University list. You should check out the template talk for the University infobox. There were 42 different infoboxes. FOURTY-TWO! They have been merged into a standard single infobox with many optional fields. That new infobox seemed like an important criteria before a university could be removed from the list. As far as the revert, I should have only added back the universities with infoboxes other than the new standard. It was easier and quicker to do the revert and warn you. Commas and such

While I have been created the list of colleges and universities, and rely on the new template, I haven't really been involved in it's creation and don't know much about infobox creation/modification. Hi, just mention it on the talk page of the article, if no one disagrees, then either remove it or split it off onto a different article (though it doesnt look worthy of its own article, so in this case just remove it). An Esperanzial note

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

My outburst was uncalled for in hindsight. I would argue, however, that it was you who acted superior. You did so by making a moderate edit without any explanation to the other editors (me and several other regulars) before the edit or in the 24 hours that passed between your edit and my edit. By not leaving even a sentence stating your belief that the use of standardized templates would improve the article, you left the impression that you were a better editors that the ones who watch the article in question. for not having instituted the change already. Always err towards caution and straightfowardness when interacting over the internet. Another Esperanzial note...

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Hi, I don't fully understand that template either, the only advice I could offer is to see how it is implemented on other pages, i.e. Lindenwold (NJT station) has it as well. sorry I couldnt help more. you could ask User:Phil Boswell, he's a bit of an expert at on templates. No no pain, i have delt with pains on here, and a person asking how do to things is not a pain. As fr the coding issue you are missing a " | " (pipe) at the end of the term1 section, you need to make sure thatyou have one either at the start or end of every section or else it will not register the information. Hey i see you got it to work great, i am still deciding what i am going to do with the defunct station status, i more then likely will leave it out of the box hard coding, as it's really only for the one station, anyway, if you want to you can og ahead and do the rest of the work on the stations and what not that you wanted to do, i can just apply that fix later, as i dont see it being a major issue at the moment. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 03:53, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Dashes

The current policy, at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dashes)#Dash guidelines for Wikipedia editors, is that you can put the correct dashes or do hyphens—but you can't change what other editors choose. So, basically, a punt. I think it's retarded; the policy should be that you can put in hyphens if you want, but that the correct usage of em and en dashes should be what we aspire to. Senator succession box

Since your the Standardization Wizard... What is the standard for US Senator Succession boxes? Is it a standard succession box or is it # Template:S-ttl-U.S. Senator? First, thanks for thinking of me a standardization wizard! I'm not much involved with that project, but it looks like that the {{S-ttl-U.S. Senator}} is in more common usage at least for Senators. The only thing is that is one a complicated name for a template. You may want to talk with the creator of page about moving it to an easier to remember page. Having read a little bit more, use this succession box: {{U.S. Senator box}}. {{S-ttl-U.S. Senator}}, is a meta template to make succession boxes easier. See Category:Succession templates for a list of succession templates. Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

Reach out Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience: "No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention." Stress Alerts The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them. Note from the editor Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!

The last AC meeting (full log) Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen. Signed... The Official Name in Maltese was removed from the infobox. This is indeed a pity!! Please include any information which was removed in the article itself or in any other preferred mode but do not leave as is. In my continuing plot to have all the excellent contributors at WP:MEA made admins (Gflores, Bobet)I would like to be the first to ask you if you are interested in adminship. This may be a little bit early because you are not yet at the current standard of ~1500 edits, but you aren't careful you may get yourself assigned the mop and bucket. If you are interested, let me know, I have some recommendations that might be helpful in your nomination. I got your message, I've just been busy doing lots of renaming. For some quick advice, start looking around "adminstrator" pages WP:RFA, WP:AN/I WP:RFAR, WP:AFD, do some recent changes patrol. Get familiar with how to deal with vandalism. Know what {{test1}} means and when you would use it and the criteria for speedy deletion. You don't need to necessarily do all those things, but you need to have a good idea of what they are about. Most people are looking for people who do maintenance around wikipedia, have good judgement and can interact well with other users. I see all those things in you so far but you may need about 2 months of familiarizing yourself with policy in addition to 500-1000 more edits, but I wanted to give you a heads up if you are interested. Barnstar Brigade The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date: "Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

Administrator Coaching The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service. This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins. Stressbusters The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome! VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive.
