Wikipedia Maintenance edit

This section includes a bunch of stuff that you can do to help Wikipedia!

Be BOLD! edit

Being bold means if you think you can help an article, do so, but make sure you cite things! Also, if you happen to see a typo, or poor grammar feel free to edit it! Remember- if no one stepped forward to edit this encyclopedia, Wikipedia would get nowhere.

The bounty board edit

If you want to help Wikipedia by contributing to articles, or you want to donate to Wikipedia but don't have the money, don't worry! Go to the bounty board and start hunting! The bounty board is a place where bounty offerers will offer (real) money for promoting their article to a certain status (usually featured article status). Then, if the bounty is achieved before the expiration date, the money in the bounty will be donated to Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Foundation under your name and anyone else who helped by contributing to the article. It's a win-win situation, see?

Welcoming new users edit

Another thing you can do to help Wikipedia is to welcome new users. There are several ways to do this. Some like to do this by hand. If you do, make sure you include links of helpful recourses and a personal message. You may also want to sign it. However, if you want to save time, check out some welcoming templates(WP:WC). Also, there is a gadget in your preferences that can help significantly. To find newbies use this page

Anti-vandalism edit

Anti-vandalism can be achieved in many ways. The first is by hand. This is very slow and you may find that the vandalism will be gone by the time you edit the page. Second, you can undo the edit. This is still pretty time consuming, compared to rollbacking. You have to request rollbacking, though. Finally, there are gadgets and programs that will aid you in antivandalism. I really like Huggle. It is a program. There are also gadgets like Twinkle. You can also use the recent changed feed. The best part of programs and gadgets are that they will not only revert vandalism quickly, but will also shoot a warning and find the vandalism in a flash. It may take up to 5 minuets to find and revert vandalism by hand, but with Huggle, you can do the same is less than 5 seconds.

Wikiprojects edit

The WikiProjects I am involved in.

This is a place to experiment with new formats, write some articles, etc. As the title suggests, anyone can experiment here. Please do not upload explict images here.

What's going on here?
The Nazca lines are a group of geoglyphs made in the soil of the Nazca Desert in southern Peru. They were created in two major phases – the Paracas phase (from 400  to 200 BC) and the Nazca phase (from 200 BC to 500 AD). The combined length of all the lines is more than 1,300 km (800 mi), and the group covers an area of about 50 km2 (19 sq mi). Most lines run straight across the landscape, but there are also figurative designs of animals and plants. Scholars differ in interpreting the purpose of the designs, but in general, they ascribe religious significance to them. The lines were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. This is an aerial view of the geoglyph known as the "monkey", one of the most well-known in the Nazca lines.Photograph credit: Diego Delso
Tip of the moment...

Link articles to their foreign-language counterparts

Do you know any languages other than English? If so, you also can contribute to the Wikipedia in those languages, or translate articles from that Wikipedia into the English Wikipedia. Do not forget to include an interlanguage link when you translate a new article. To help coordinate with other language Wikipedias, you can join the Wikimedia Embassy. Also, check out how other languages are doing with our multilingual statistics.
