The relationship between eunuchs and LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans) people has a and long and intervened history. A eunuch is generally regarded as a person who has had their gonads removed and has not taken supplemental hormones to make up for the loss naturally provided by the organs. The vast majority of eunuchs to have lived have been male, but some intersex and female eunuchs have existed. Eunuchs were popular in the past as slaves and theologian Robert Goss notes that "modern attention to eunuchs has come primarily from lesbian gay and trans scholars, who see parallels between the ancient eunuchs and (selected) elements of the modern lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community."[1] Many queer theologicans regard eunuchs as the spiritual ancestors of LGBT people.[2][3][4][5]
In western consciousness modern men and transgender women who have gonadecomties are not considered eunuchs as they often intend to take complimentary hormones.
