Separate Commons category?

edit

On Enwiki, I believe it would be particularly helpful to have the template categorize Commons Admins (and perhaps Meta Admins) into their own categories, as picture related issues often need the attention of a Commons admin. Does anyone have any qualms about my trying to build this functionality into the template? -- Avi (talk) 15:07, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

{{Editprotected}} See this proposed edit. I am proposing that the link be changed to where the "group" parameter is "sysop". -- IRP 21:31, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think that's more confusing than it helps, since ListAdmins is going to list the first username lexically larger than the one given in the parameter that is a sysop. E.g., if you were displaying the box on your page it would show [1] instead of [2]. I consider the first far more confusing than the latter is misleading (if that is why you are proposing this change). --Amalthea 00:33, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
I was intending for it to display "No user found.". Is it possible for that? -- IRP 01:19, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
I don't know. --Amalthea 10:18, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
edit

I propose that we change verify link to: [http://toolserver.org/~soxred93/isAdmin/index.php?user={{PAGENAME}}&group=sysop verify] because it returns a simple yes or no answer to "is this user a sysop?" Tim1357 (talk) 19:17, 12 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Request

edit

Any chance we can use File:Admin mop.svg instead? It features the new logo, and is a vector version. The image page may need to be expanded, and the image protected on COmmons, though. If not, I completely understand, but why not? Thanks. Connormah (talk | contribs) 19:21, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Edit request - adding "uselang=en" to Special:ListUsers for non-English projects

edit

Hi. Could someone add "uselang=en" to Special:ListUsers for non-English projects? With this change we can easily verify user on non-English projects. I already updated {{User wikipedia/Bureaucrat}} for this [3] and it works fine. So similar change must work on this template as well. Thanks in advance. --Penn Station (talk) 12:19, 30 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Moving the period

edit

The period should be moved to before the parentheses so the text reads "This user is an administrator on the English Wikipedia. (verify)" to keep consistency with other similar userboxes–see similar boxes on Wikipedia:Userboxes/Wikipedia/Positiondanhash (talk) 19:15, 24 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Done Consistency is good. Anomie 02:22, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Overlinking

edit

There are way too many links on this template. 3 already by default. The one link that would really be interesting in this context is an Easter WP:EGG. What makes it even less discoverable is that it's only optional. Of course, everybody is free to format their user boxes in whichever layout they like, but we want to be helpful to our readers and fellow editors, don't we? Here's a version which I feel is more helpful: User:SebastianHelm/adminbox. — Sebastian 21:48, 12 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Would be cool if I could use this template for test.wikipedia. I would think that it would change the id image to use the black globe, that there would be a short local page here (perhaps I can just copy and paste from there), and the (verify test) link would actually work. I'm not entirely sure how to do that on this template (not sure what the lang code is for test.wikipedia) Thanks! Technical 13 (talk) 16:01, 6 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

The code is "testwiki" - you can check by looking at WP:INTERWIKI. I've added an optional image parameter to the sandbox, and I've thrown together an example for you at the test cases page. Will that do you? — Mr. Stradivarius on tour ♪ talk ♪ 07:36, 8 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've updated the template with fixes from Template:User wikipedia/Reviewer. Please see it in /sandbox and replace this with its code. That's a purely technical thing, so we don't need consensus for this. Rezonansowy (talkcontribs) 22:50, 13 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Not done for now: Why should these changes be made? It appears all you did was specify two colors as what they already are by default, make the logo a little smaller, reorder some of the parameters, and insert some extraneous linebreaks that shouldn't be there. Intended behaviour ?

edit

User:LuHay Tari3 has this template on his userpage therefore claiming to be an admin. The "verify" option lists this user as created on 22nd August but the group filter is set to all instead of Administrator. If one missed this small but important detail one may believe this user is an Administrator. Please check code and fix if this isn't intended.--Denniss (talk) 13:30, 30 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Not done: This is a userbox with a "verify" link, so there is no need to change anything in this template. The user in question has been blocked, so the user page has been blanked and the block notice added. Thank you for your help to bring this to the attention of other editors! During the recent RFC on admin activity requirements, an idea was floated to recognize retired administrators with their own category and bestowing the title of "administrator emeritus/emerita." Please update the code to include the changes in the sandbox, though if there is a less messy way to include Category:Retired Wikipedia administrators only in userspace feel free to do so. Please also update the documentation to include |retired=. I added a test case to demonstrate. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 16:55, 31 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Would it not be easier to make a new userbox at Template:User wikipedia/Retired Administrator? Terasail[✉️] 17:09, 31 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Terasail: I made one already, but a suggestion was made on that talk page to just add another parameter here. I can just as easily create the new template. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 17:13, 31 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Just for me.. The verify link it completely different. The phrasing is different and any user categories would change so at that point it makes sense to have a new userbox Terasail[✉️] 17:15, 31 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Not done the idea seems just fine, but the "use a unique userbox" seems like the better implementation as well. At the very least this is now at step 3 of WP:BRD here. Discussion can continue, or you can boldly just create the new template and category. — xaosflux Talk 19:03, 31 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

When |RFA= is used in this template currently, it adds the link over This user, which creates an MOS:EGG issue because it is not clear that that text will lead to the RfA page. I've tweaked the sandbox to instead put it next to the verify button (and also added aliases for different capitalizations); the result can be seen here in the testcases. Please lmk how it looks; I will plan to implement in a little while if there are no concerns. Cheers, Sdkbtalk 20:49, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
