Merging edit

The merging of this infobox causes the logo of each youth Olympic to not show. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 21:31, 18 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please provide an example article, were this problem manifests. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:35, 18 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
No matter; should all be fixed, now. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:54, 18 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Also, the template doesn't made specificly to the Youth Olympiad. It is a generic template! --180.183.104.83 (talk) 10:40, 24 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
That's a non-issue. Use "Youth Olympiad" in the |name= parameter. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:24, 24 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Only "Games", neither Summer nor Winter edit

Would like to use the infobox games for the South American Games, e.g. here. However, there are only South American Games or South American Beach Games, rather than Summer or Winter Games. Appreciate to have parameters "next" and "previous" in addition to "Snext", "Sprevious", etc., without displaying "Summer:", "Winter:", etc. in the infobox.

Thanks. CroesJ (talk) 18:44, 6 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Having the same problem with the IAAF World Championships in Athletics. If noone objects, I'd like to change the template as suggested, i.e. introduce two generic parameters, "next" and "previous", working as described above. GregorB (talk) 15:27, 23 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
now added. Frietjes (talk) 15:54, 23 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the edit. However, it appears that somebody was not pleased and undid it.CroesJ (talk) 18:27, 9 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
they undid the next edit, not mine. Frietjes (talk) 15:29, 27 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Nations participating is not working edit

"Nations participating" is not appearing in the infobox. CroesJ (talk) 19:34, 25 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Forgot to reference: see, e.g., here. CroesJ (talk) 19:56, 25 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

should be fixed now. Frietjes (talk) 15:34, 27 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Add a 'host state' parameter edit

Seeing as the 2026 Commonwealth Games have broken with tradition & are going with a "host state", rather then "host city" format. I recommend we add a host state parameter. GoodDay (talk) 03:06, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wow, this template is messy. I see two possible options. The first is to just use what is currently given, specifically that if |host= is given, the label is just "Host", as seen in this fix I did for the 2026 Games. The other option, should we really need to have multiple host types, is to add in a |host_type= parameter that would change the label itself. Not particularly thrilled with the second option but I can code it up if it's really desired. Primefac (talk) 09:06, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Is |host_state= particulary bad? I'd be easier than your second option. Pelmeen10 (talk) 19:16, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
It's not particularly bad, just makes for more #if statements. I'm also generally a fan of not changing existing norms unless there's a good reason, and having a generic "Host" option fixes your issue without actually needing to change anything. Primefac (talk) 19:35, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Oh I see that |host_city= is mostly used. Did you add |host= parameter or was was it previously displayed as "Host city"? Pelmeen10 (talk) 20:03, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I have not edited the template; using |host= sets the label to "Host" and not "Host city". I've added it to the /doc to make it more obvious that it's an option. Primefac (talk) 20:10, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Alt params edit

This series of edits by Dinnerbrone seems unnecessary to me, but it does bring to light the fact that this template has way too many alternate parameter names. I think we should standardise and deprecate all but "the usual suspects", i.e. lowercase and underscored names. I can see a few params where it makes sense to have multiples (e.g. |host_city= and |host=) but {{if empty | {{{nations participating|}}} | {{{Nations participating|}}} | {{{Nations|}}} | {{{nations|}}} }} is just silly (we just need |nations=). I don't think I necessarily need to make a list, but if someone wants to debate the merits of keeping or getting rid of any particular set, I can do so. @Primefac I 1000% agree with your analysis. No need for so many different aliases, particularly for this type of template that will have a select number of uses per year. Additionally, Module:Check for unknown parameters helps tremendously. -- Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 18:03, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Changes sandboxed, if no one has issue with it by the weekend I'll swap things over. Primefac (talk) 14:05, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
