Talk:Yoseikan budō

The introduction was really lacking important aspects of the art. I have completed it a bit but it's not perfect, so feel free to improve it.

I have some bits of information that I don't know where to place, so I write them here:

The story tells that the idea of using shockwaves came from Mochizuki looking at a circus artist who was launching a knife on a trunk. The knife was attached at the extremity of a whip, and the artist used the whip to increase his power. He inserted the knife by about 3cm. Next, Mochizuki tried himself using his hands, and managed to insert it only by a few millimeters. There came his idea of applying this technique to martial arts and create a whole new style.

Hiroo Mochizuki has made tests at the Institut National du Sport et de l'Éducation Phisique (National Institute of Sport and Physical Education) in Paris, in order to confirm that the gain of using shockwaves was real. He measured the strength of his kicks and punches against those of a few karatekas. He obtained pressures that were about 3 times as much as the pressures obtained from the karatekas with "traditional" technique ; he got nearly 1t of pressure with his kicks. He must have been a bit stronger than the karatekas but this alone doesn't explain the difference, so the efficiency of shockwaves was proven.

Double Entries under Yoseikan and Yoseikan Budo

We have double entries here under Yoseikan and Yoseikan Budo. The first concentrates more upon Mochizuki Minoru's contributions while the later concentrates more upon the present system as further developed by his son Hiroo.

I had developed the Yoseikan entry not knowing that the second entry existed.

I wrote more concerning the history of the art under Mochizuki-senior only because it is that system that I have more knowledge of. Having trained briefly at the Shizuoka Hombu in 1991 over the years I always paid attention when I came across articles and interviews concerning Mochizuki Minoru. I don't really have much knowledge of Hiroo's system and so this part of my article is largely undeveloped in the "Yoseikan" entry but is very well developed here.

The Yoseikan Budo entry is quite good and has a coherence and narrative flow which might not be well matched if the two articles were merged.

Thanks for doing the work here Peter.

I re-introduced some of the material from the original "Yoseikan Budo" entry on the later innovations of Hiroo Mochizuki, read it over and "Wow!" it is quite a comprehensive article on the history of the Yoseikan now. Good one!

I've noticed that an anonymous poster keeps deleting the link that Graham provided to Patrick Auge's group. It would better I think to deal with this issue in talk than to keep adding and deleting ... and of course to be taken seriously one should probably identify one's self as Grahamwild has.

I suspect that the deletion may be for political reasons as there hardly exists a reason to deny a connection between Auge and the teachings of Mochizuki Minoru. As one of the authors of this article I would say that we tried to be inclusive of the various elements which were a part of the Yoseikan system in its different stages rather than representing any particular group. I can't see a good reason other than self promotion or individual agendas for not doing so.

All Yoseikan Budo links deserve to be included in the external links list. Please stop removing the International Yoseikan Budo link. The true spirit of Yoseikan is Mutual Welfare and Prosperity, being exclusive does not adhere to this principle. Kind Regards, Grahamwild 06:34, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

RE: Non English titles

Nate, I respect the fact that we should minimize the use of non-English titles but in this case because "Yoseikan Budo" is the name of the art and is explained immediately before I would think that it should stand. Would we not allow 'judo' to be used in any of the titles on its own page because it is 'foreign terminology'?

Also the use of "Mochizuki's original system" and "Hiroo's system" is because in fact they are two distnct systems, Hiroo's system having evolved in different directions than the earlier system developed by his father. There seems to be a need to distinguish them in order to make the information contained under the headings accurate.

I have updated the Australia section to highlight the spread of Hiroo Mochizuki's Yoseikan Budo outside of Europe and how this come about in regards to Australia. It also is a testament to the fact that not all of the clubs affiliated to the Hombu and Minoru Mochizuki Shihan when their own way after the passing of the founder.
