It is possible that e-bay espisode was just a hoax. the current status of ownership needs updating. if it was a hox, the mention is probably of little encyclopedic value.--Kudpung (talk) 09:11, 3 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi - I've had a look into this. It appears that the owners did put the freehold up for sale on e-bay, but did not succeed in selling it at that date. However, the freehold was sold in 2009 (purchaser unknown - I will try and find out if I can). The ruins and gardens still remain in the guardianship of English Heritage and are open to visitors.FGLawson (talk) 13:23, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi - I hope that this clarifies the ownership : - The woodland walks and ornamental parks are directly owned by English Heritage but the ruined house and the formal gardens are still privately owned. However this core of the estate has been under the guardianship of the Government for more than thirty years and access to it is managed by English Heritage on behalf of the Secretary of State. English Heritage has played a key role in preserving and restoring the house and gardens, with invaluable support from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Wolfson Foundation. (extract from press statement Dec 2008) The new owners of the ruined house and formal gardens (from 2009) are belived to be Rowan-Hull family. FGLawson (talk) 14:05, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
