While chief justices of England at that time were far more political and far less incorruptible, it seems odd nowadays that an upholder of the law should order an employee not to warn off or to apprehend an intruder but to kill him. Odder still, exactly the same story is told of a Chief Justice of the Common Pleas, Sir Robert Danby who died 51 years later in 1474.[1] It is beyond belief that two senior judges should commit the crime of suicide in the same half-century in the same unique way.
