Pasa vs Pasha vs Paşa

Actual word and spelling is Paşa. Pasha is the version often used to make it easier for the English user to sound it out correctly. Nothing very wrong with it, but Wikipedia search cathces all anyways it seems. Besides, in this and many other articles tons of other names with ō, ű, ő and ç exist. I never undestood though some editors obsession with "Pasha" vs "Paşa". This comes up often. There is actually a real and serious conflict with the name itself - wish the previous editor had focused on that one! Sometimes it is Vehip, sometimes it is Vehib. It is never Wehib, though it is proper to mention that he was referred so in various Western sources. That should be corrected. Hmmm, this discussion brings up an interesting question: what title do we use for Ottoman people who were prominent during the Empire but later adopted different names under the Republic? Vehib's brother Esad Pasha is a perfect example of this, he is well-known as Es[s]ad Pasha but the name under which he died, and where his article is located, is Mehmet Esat Bülkat. There is no confusion. Paşa is the correct construction. Besides, it actually shows up in English dictionary searches. I undestand the common use in English, but that does not make Paşa incorrect certainly. More importantly either shows up in searches. As shown above, there are countless other names and titles in similar situation on these pages.Murat (talk) 02:50, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

On the Pasha/Paşa issue, my understanding is that it is a title, not a name. Hence it gets rendered into its English form, which is Pasha (ca. 1800, it would have been Bashaw, probably). Despite the growing usage of the Turkish forms for Ottoman names in scholarship and even general books, for most people around the world, the phonology of Turkish is unknown. To them, "ş" is a fancy "s", "ı" is "i" etc. "Pasha" is hence recognizable, "Paşa" may well not be, except from the context. Constantine ✍ 05:25, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Note: There is small defference between Mehmet Esat Bülkat (Esad Pasha), Ömer Fahrettin Türkkan (Fakhri Pasha) and Mehmet Vehip (Kaçı). Mehmet Esat and Ömer Fahrettin got their surname officially after the 1934 surname law. But Mehmet Vehip didn't get it. Takabeg (talk) 07:47, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Did Wehib Return to Turkey?

The article states that both, "He did not return to Istanbul until after his death," and "Afterwards, Vehib left Ethiopia and returned to Istanbul." Which is correct?
