I have removed this text - "... and may illustrate the parable of the Good Shepherd. If so, it would be a very rare subject for a late Roman silver plate" - this was based on a statement by Chris Entwistle[1] quoted in the British Museum blog, which represents a view at an early and speculative stage. Although Christian symbols are not uncommon, depictions of parables can be shown to be rare. However the statement is speculative and complex as how clear other depictions are of known parables is likely to be of debate (for 4th century silver tableware at least, though probably not for silver reliquaries or similar religious objects). Until there are articles published, pinning this on a comment in a blog seems to overstate the case for this particular key artefact in the Treasure.
