Problem problem...

Problem: it's just good for Dream Team I, but after...

For exemple:

  • Dream Team II: it's not the 1996 Olympic Team but the 1994 World Championship team: [1]

...

Yep. The previous authors of this article forgot about the real Dream Team II (1994), as well as the one in 2002. I've added new sections on them. Funnyhat 05:58, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

    • Are you guys sure?? "Cause I remember clearly that ESPN called the 2004 olympic team 'Dream Team IV'. I was under the impression that the teams that went to the olympics were dubbed dream teams. <<Coburn_Pharr>> 5 July 2005 00:53 (UTC)

United States national basketball team

I'll be redirecting it here and instead add a dab note at the top for United States women's national basketball team. --Howard the Duck 16:53, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Cleanup tag

I added the cleanup tag to this. First of all, the article is really long. We should/can move the "final standings" into the article on the respective Olympic games (e.g., Basketball at the 1936 Summer Olympics; usually those articles have the rankings but not the records). Having a section for each Olympics and WC seems like overkill--there should either be a separate article on each team--definitely a separate article for the 1992 Dream Team--or the US data should be moved to the specific Olympic games. Finally, there are lots of missing wikilinks and a few misspelled names. I don't have time to address these right now but will try to start knocking on this in the next few days. Rolando 21:30, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Personally, I believe that the only team that really needs a separate section before 1992 is the 1972 Munich team. Everything else is definitely overkill. Onebaseman 23:42, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

I made some very large changes to the article RE: Cleanup tag

The roster and results for every single team made the article too long, and didn't really add much at all to the entry. The rosters and results for Olympic games were already on the respective Olympics results pages. I named some of the more notable players for certain teams.

I think we should take a lead from the soccer national team pages and include certain famous past players along with a more organized current roster, something I'll work on soon.

The intro needs to be worked on as well.

Hope this is okay with everyone.Onebaseman 01:06, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

I made many more changes to the article throughout the afternoon and evening. I put the current roster into a table, added the full current coaching staff, made tables for previous coaches, added a list of famous past players, and reworded much of the introduction. I also have removed the cleanup tag. Onebaseman 03:58, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism

I'm pretty sure there's some vandalism going on in the roster section - someone keeps removing Kobe Bryant. Grant.alpaugh 04:28, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

On March 9 2008, I got on here to check the mens 2008 olympic roster. When I looked I saw a name I knew, but a name that should not have been there. MARC CARTER is a 4 foot even kid who couldnt even get his team out of Athens, Ohio. So I doubt Marc has been added to the roster. The next time I see Marc, I am going to tease him about it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.81.195.46 (talk) 21:18, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Yah, I noticed that too, and I replaced the non-sense with the most likely Olympics roster. I assume we will get more of that when the official roster comes out. Maybe the admin need to lock the page down at that point? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ieddiew (talkcontribs) 15:38, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Also, I just fixed where somebody put Reggie Bush on the team... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.61.135.87 (talk) 20:12, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

I guess I missed when the USA Men's Basketball team got the nickname "Humanity's Last Best Hope." MrArticleOne (talk) 04:16, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

1992 Barkley elbow incident

In the section "The 1992 Dream Team's Olympic Summary" would it be appropriate to include a discussion/mention of the intentional elbowing that Charles Barkley gave to an Angloan player. It caused quite a stir and is still mentioned today as the moment that the spirit of amateurism died in the Olympics. Here's the article at the time from the NY times and here's a contemporary reference from the sydney morning herald. I've also written this same question at the article Basketball at the 1992 Summer Olympics. I had personally never heard of this event before, but I've seen it mentioned a couple of times just today so I thought I'd raise it here. Witty Lama 07:13, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Medal count for USA

Someone should change the medals section because it says USA won a medal in 2008 and they just played the first game today plus i don't want to ruin anything but by being overconfident and saying that they're a shoe in for first place. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.168.132.26 (talk) 16:17, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Nationality of players

The column "WT" should be relabelled "club" and the column "club" should be relabelled "nationality." (May, 2009).— Preceding unsigned comment added by Justanothersgwikieditor (talkcontribs) 15:26, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Should the 1992 Dream Team have its own article?

Since the Dream Team is going to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame this year, a separate article may be warranted. It would be the only Olympic team so honored, so it seems like that establishes notability for the team separate from the US National Team as a whole. Thoughts? Rikster2 (talk) 02:08, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

This team should have it's own page for several reasons. 1. It is widely considered the most dominant team assembled for any sport in any era. 2. It was a historic change of president for how the future of USA basketball would be handled. 3. It is the only team inducted into the Hall of Fame in its entirety —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.181.217.66 (talk) 14:55, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

  • Actually, it's not the only Olympic team so honored. The 1960 US Olympic team will be inducted into the Hall at the same ceremony. However, that having been said, the Dream Team ABSOLUTELY needs its own article, for reasons 1 and 2 above. — Dale Arnett (talk) 02:34, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

Team (and article) name

The lead section, as imprecise edits by LibertyDodzo kind of hinted at, actually does not make it clear at all what the official name of this team is. That name should be the boldfaced first thing in the article, and the title of this article. It obviously isn't "United States men's national basketball team", and from the logo it appears to actually be "USA Basketball". This article is just jarringly vague; I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like it. It's tantamount to something like Dallas men's professional American football team. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 10:02, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Question about the 2014 team

Does anyone know when the 2014 Team USA roster will be finalized, so we know which players will be heading to Spain for World Championship? Johnsmith2116 (talk) 14:44, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

It's ongoing. Some updates are at 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup squads. If anyone's inclined, I think it's probably notable enough to create a 2014 United States men's FIBA Basketball World Cup team article.—Bagumba (talk) 19:36, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
Created 2014 United States FIBA Basketball World Cup team. Didn't include "men's" because, according to FIBA World Championship for Women, the new "World Cup" name does not apply to women's event. Anyone can feel free to change the name if cup/championship distinction seems to complicated, or there is any perception of gender inequality.—Bagumba (talk) 06:17, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

United States men's national basketball teamUnited States national basketball team – similarly to all other men's national basketball teams--Unikalinho (talk) 04:33, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Oppose WP:SYSTEMATICBIAS, WP:PRECISE, we should endeavour to show which national basketball team this is, not just assume it is the men's. All the other articles should do so as well. -- 70.51.200.101 (talk) 05:06, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Oppose as per 70.51.200.101 and as per the Olympics who set the example in presenting sports on equal footings as "men's" and "women's". In fact all the players featured at http://www.olympic.org/basketball all happen to be women. The article Women's basketball even begins with the text "Women's basketball is one of the few[citation needed] women's sports that developed in tandem with its men's counterpart. ..." I know I may have gone into overkill here but I was intrigued. GregKaye 07:44, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Dream Team nickname

This recent edit to add "Dream Team" nickname" to the infobox is too broad of a generalization. "Dream Team" refers specifically to the 1992 United States men's Olympic basketball team, where it is mentioned in the lead of that article. Other incarnations are "Dream Team II" in 1994 and "Dream Team III" in 1996. Otherwise, the US national team is not generally called "Dream Team". For example, 2012 United States men's Olympic basketball team was never referred to as a Dream Team. Appropriately, Dream Team currently disambiguates to entries for the specific team, not the national team in general. Let's not have readers coming to this article leaving with the impression that "Dream Team" refers to any year's team.—Bagumba (talk) 15:54, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

As far as I'm concerned, any USA basketball team that is comprised of NBA players and is called "Dream Team". Yes, "Dream Team" frequently refers to the "1992 Dream Team", but it usually goes with different specifications ("1992 Dream Team", "Original Dream Team", "Dream Team I"). You can check other Wikipedias: Spanish, Italian. All of them mention "Dream Team" as a broader nickname that can be applied to any U.S. team with NBA players. We can also do it like in the French Wikipedia and identify different time periods. Uiscfd (talk) 17:33, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

Official name

The official name of the team appears to be "USA Basketball Men's Senior National Team" from their website as well as other news sources. I'll add it to the lead. I dont think the article need to be renamed, as the current name is probably more commonly used, but someone else can pursue it if they want to spend more time looking into in.—Bagumba (talk) 22:30, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

@Uiscfd: Regarding your recent edit to remove "Senior" from the lead, see above for earlier rationale. It apparently was used to differentiate from the U19, U18, etc teams.—Bagumba (talk) 07:57, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

In 2018, the name "Senior national team" is rarely seen in the news. I understand that in 2012 "Senior" helped differentiate the men's national team from other teams (junior etc.). But now it doesn't. Uiscfd (talk) 18:16, 16 April 2018 (UTC)
