Please help! I am trying to rewrite to avoid "Jewish writer". I'll leave Slim a note since she is very knowledgeable about these things. Thanks, --Tom13:55, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Per wp:mosbio, ethnicity should generally not be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. It's about standardizing the lead sentence of bios. It just seems like it can be worded better without compromising the subject's accomplishments or the subjects themselves. I will try not to revert any bios that are "questionable" unless there is wider agreement on the manual of style issue. She was an American citizen, correct? Thanks, --Tom12:27, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
To be honest, I am not that sure. Again, its about the "phrasing". Is her ethnicity why she is notable or is it her body of work in that field? Rather than "Joe was a Jewish painter" I would preffer "Joe was a painter specializing in Jewish subject matter" or "Joe was a painter of Jewish descent" ect. Is Jewish a nationality? I guess historically it was? Anyways, I will deffer to others. Its amazing how much I am learning about Jewish Feminism :) Cheers! --Tom13:10, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
