All of the demonstrations except one, described here for the month of August, have taken place outside of Hong Kong. The "solidarity" protests are coming from ethnically Hong Kong people in the United Kingdom, diaspora Hong Kong Canadians, etc. That one example, the pro-Jimmy Lai singing at the shopping mall, is a better fit for Apple Daily#Aftermath. At what point do these month-by-month articles stop? Wikipedia has long stopped putting Hong Kong protests in its ongoing events section. Not all applications of the Hong Kong national security law are "protest" news. Words mean things. Show me the "protests in Hong Kong". 체셔🐈 (talk) 14:04, 19 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
There has been a discussion on concluding the protest articles on the talk page of the main article. The consensus, AFAIK from the last time I visited there, was that the matters would be further observed. This was some time back, and you may want to contribute your views there. Some of my thoughts on your points are these: 1) You speak of "protests in Hong Kong", but the article titles refer to "Hong Kong protests", which is IMHO a significant difference. 2) To place that specific information only in AppleDaily#Aftermath would make it substantially more difficult to locate. And under the NSL, protests are much more risky and thus noteworthy. 3) You begin by making the point that the protests were mostly occurring outside of Hong Kong, so it seems that this point is important in your reasoning; but why would it, in this line of reasoning, be important that the protests "are coming" from people with Hong Kong background? (That last claim, even if it is granted that the quoted phrase is somewhat diffuse, seems incorrect to me.) --CRau080 (talk) 10:15, 20 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
