Talk:The Last Jew in Vinnitsa

spelling

edit

Vinnitsa, Vinnitsia, Vinnytsia - can we go with the spelling of the article about the city? --Richardson mcphillips (talk) 17:56, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Source for "last Jew in Vinnitsa" inscription

edit

The more reliable sources I found don't mention the supposed writing on the back of the photograph. It seems possible to me that this is a myth that started on the internet 10 or 15 years ago and gained enough traction to be repeated by superficially reliable sources like an op-ed column the The Guardian or the donor's notes in a Kenyon College document collection. OTOH maybe there is an authoritative source which is not Googlable or not in English. jnestorius(talk) 07:07, 5 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

The earliest reference I have found so far is a photograph caption "The Last Jew of Vinnitsa" in
Rittner, Carol; Smith, Stephen David; Steinfeldt, Irena (2000-09-01). The Holocaust and the Christian world: reflections on the past, challenges for the future. Continuum. p. 120.

in my opinion there are serious problems in the article. His introduction shows the most "unlikely" version as a given. However, an encyclopaedia should present both versions equally. The most likely, that of Al Moss, where there is a photo of the back, and secondarily the most unlikely, where there is no photo of the back. If we're going to repeat rumors...we cannot talk about credibility MavrosPagos (talk) 19:30, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Why not the uncropped version?

edit

Why is only the cropped version of the photo shown in the article? Why not the entire photo which extends a bit to the left and shows the end of the (rather small) mass grave, whose size cannot be judged properly in this cropped version? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:8388:541:E300:119C:5295:2552:781E (talk) 17:18, 28 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
