structure of the article

edit

IMHO the article is imbalanced : ie heavy on legislative history , and light on practical overview. Opinions invited. Sanjiv swarup (talk) 02:40, 17 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

You are quiet right on that. In fact before I inserted the constitutional aspect and the various types of taxation, there was hardly enough material to even look at it. I had been wondering for long whether I had been the only one thinking about it or what I thinking too much because there was no response from the wiki community on such an important topic. If you are looking forward for an collaborative attempt on improve the shape of the article, count me in. There is a huge scope for improvement in this article. To begin with we can give a brief introduction and setting to all major types of taxes listed there which can be elaborated further and in fact have exclusive articles on them later. The role of finance ministry and the budget making process and its interaction on the taxation system can also be a worthwhile inclusion in that. What say? Controversies

edit

Hi, I suggest adding a bit on the important controversies. For instance, the controversies over the definition of 'sale' in sales tax; recent events such as the Hutch-Vodafone controversy etc. Any suggestions? Lawprof111 (talk) 08:28, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Lawprof111Reply

Central Board of Direct Taxes itself needs a separate page. I strongly recommend keeping it out. I was working on it and will continue to bring in information on direct taxes. We can keep a summary of CBDT work here rather than redirecting CBDT page to Taxation in India. 210.212.190.49 (talk) 07:22, 26 February 2012 (UTC)SaiReply

VATs in India?

edit

Skimming this article, it doesn't seem to mention any Indian VATs at the national or state levels, but I found a google result mentioning an introduction of Indian VATs in 2005. Can anyone elaborate? Apologies if my question is ignorant; I don't have time to delve into the details, I was just hurriedly looking to get a clue. Any Indian Wikipedians who know the answer may be able to incorporate it into the article easily, whereas I would have to research it (no time). Many thanks. 198.185.18.72 (talk) 19:41, 27 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Need to separate Central Board of Direct Taxes

edit

CBDT and article about Direct Taxes is grossly inadequate. CBDT must be developed into a separate page like CBEC. What does any one think about this proposal? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vence1234 (talkcontribs) 14:56, 21 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Assessment comment

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Taxation in India/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

==request rating revision== I have added substantial content from what it existed earlier. I am in the process of looking for more material and references to include in the article. However in the meanwhile I believe, that the existing stub rating should be revised to atleaststart class rating. Any comments? Tarun2k (talk) 16:32, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merge

edit

I propose to merge Central Excise Duty into this article, since there is not enough content / citations available at the given article. -- Pankaj Jain Capankajsmilyo (talk · contribs · count) 07:13, 18 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

This page needs an update now that GST is live.
