Scholarly Editions

edit

Does anybody know anything about scholarly editions, either religious or secular? I know there are a few commentaries on targum but are there any critical editions comparing various targumim? Avraham (talk) 22:08, 4 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Targum Ketuvim

edit

"An official targum was in fact unnecessary for Ketuvim because its books played no fixed liturgical role."

Dates

edit

Some mention of which centuries these targumim were composed in should be included in the intro, and indeed, in the body. Rwflammang (talk) 00:28, 26 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

In addition, we may want to consider using BCE and CE, given the ecumenical nature of the article. BibleScholar (talk) 10:38, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Targum Yonatan ben Uzziel http://www.hebrewbooks.org/40279 Targum Yonatan http://www.hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=35988&pgnum=1 Targum Yerushalmi http://www.hebrewbooks.org/35819 The last two seem very short, but you can find all three as part of Walton's (London) polyglot. See this site, go to the bottom and then page up. Parts 8 and 9 have Targum Yerushalmi and Targum Yonatan ben Uzziel. Targum Yonatan is in-line in the seconds of Tannakh after Torah. http://bibletranslation.ws/palmer-translation/ 71.163.117.143 (talk) 20:30, 2 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Arabic

Targum has the same meaning in Arabic as in Arameic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.192.4.27 (talk) 05:16, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Other Targumim on Torah

edit

Although the interpretation of the Talmud might lend itself to believing that Yonatan ben Uzziel did not write any other Targumim, (hence the line "To attribute this targum to Jonathan ben Uzziel flatly contradicts the talmudic tradition (Megillah 3a), which quite clearly attributes the targum to Nevi'im alone to him, while stating that there is no official targum to Ketuvim."), i beleive the Talmud could be understood to mean that the official Targum that is read in the Synagogue is that of Onkoles and not Yonatan ben Uzziel, which is not to say that Yonatan ben Uzziel did not write his own Targum to torah. That being said, i am unsure if this read of the Talmud contradicts historical or literary evidence to the contrary. 71.187.208.159 (talk) 16:42, 17 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
