Sunjung Kim has played a pivotal role in linking Korean contemporary art and the international art world.

From 1993 to 2004, Kim worked as the chief curator at Artsonje Center, a contemporary art centre in Seoul. She was the commissioner of the Korean Pavilion at the 51st Venice Biennale (2005).[1] In 2006, she initiated the annual contemporary art festival Platform Seoul. The first festival, titled “Somewhere in Time,” was followed by “Tomorrow” (2007), “I have nothing to say and I am saying it” (2008), “Platform in KIMUSA: Void of Memory” (2009) and “Projected Image” (2010). She co-curated “Your Bright Future,” an exhibition of 12 contemporary artists from Korea presented at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Houston Museum of Fine Arts (2009–10). Kim has also curated solo exhibitions for artists such as In-Hwan Oh, Martin Creed, Beom Kim and Haegue Yang at Artsonje Center. Kim was the artistic director of the 6th Seoul International Media Art Biennale - Media City Seoul 2010. [2]

For the influential Frieze Magazine's 2010 year in review they asked TWELVE artists, critics and curators from around the world to choose what, and who, they felt to be the most significant shows and artists of 2010 and what they’re looking forward to in 2011 - including Sunjung Kim [3]
