User keeps editing venue names to their taste

edit

There is one user that keeps vandalizing the article and editing the venue names to their taste. The most recent example is the box office score data - Billboard Boxscore reported the Milan, Udine, Barcelona, Madrid, Oslo, Gothenburg and Copenhagen dates as, respectively: Stadio San Siro, Stadio Friuli, Estadio Olímpico, Estadio Vicente Calderón, Valle Hovin, Ullevi Stadion and Parken Stadion. This user insists on changing them to San Siro Stadium, Friuli Stadium, Olympic Stadium, Vicente Calderón Stadium, Valle Hovin Stadium, Ullevi Stadium and Parken Stadium. These are not the venue names as reported by Billboard! Some of these are outright ridiculous - "Valle Hovin Stadium" is preposterous! Valle Hovin isn't even a stadium, it's an ice-skating rink! This has been going on for weeks in the tour dates section. The user disregards the venue names as listed by Madonna's official website and Billboard Boxscore and simply changes them to whatever they wish. Unconscious³ (talk) 04:06, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Madonna's Worldwide tours sequence number

edit

This is not Madonna's 8th worldwide tour, but the 7th. The Virgin Tour is a North American tour. If you check the information in Wikipedia concerning the Who's That Girl World Tour you will see that "The tour was also Madonna's first world tour, reaching Asia, North America and Europe." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.36.8.98 (talk) 11:32, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. Actually any word like "worldwide" and "successful" in the lead will fail WP:PEACOCK and I believe should be removed. A simple line like eighth concert tour is notable enough. --Legolas (talk2me) 12:11, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Madonna's daughter Lourdes joined her mom on stage on both concerts (September 1st, 2nd) in Tel Aviv during "Give it 2 Me". Her son Rocco joined her on the D.J station during the song "Music". Please add it under additional notes. Omernaor (talk) 07:35, 6 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

The edit was made within 15 minutes of references being supplied - I would say that qualifies as prompt. And a bootleg video on YouTube (which is liable to become unavailable in the near future) will not be an adequate reference for the further edit you have requested.  ∙ AJChamtalk 20:52, 6 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the defence, AJCham, but I don't think that sort of comment rates any responce beyond a one-finger salute. If someone is unhappy with the speed with which their fellow editors service semiprotected edit requests, they should take their business elsewhere. Thanks for making the effort to find those references, BTW. Celestra (talk) 04:37, 7 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Broadcasts & recordings

edit

HBO and HBO HD aired the concert on Friday, October, 2nd in Poland and in Croatia, Hungary, Romania and Serbia on October 3rd. It aired the whole concert, with the whole Intro and the request song (Like a Virgin)[1] Miljan94.189.183.209 (talk) 15:41, 30 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ok, since nobody reacted, I'm gonna ask again - why doesn't anybody change the info for broadcasts and include the info I provided? Miljan 94.189.183.209 (talk) 00:08, 26 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Images

edit

Why does all the images are aligned to the right? The MOS for images suggest that when the page have several images, they can be alternated. The same happens in all of the Madonna's tour pages. 190.234.89.96 (talk) 21:46, 10 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

No its not. Images are aligned right or left based on the image itself. If an image has teh main focused person looking to the right, then its placed on left. The main reason for this is that images are supposed to be looking towards the article and not away from it. --Legolas (talk2me) 11:51, 22 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Where are the cancelled and postponed tour dates?

edit

Where are the cancelled and postponed tour dates? i can't find these facts in the new reworked article! please add this into the article again... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.244.55.208 (talk) 19:48, 13 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

They are completely unencyclopedic and hence removed from the reworked version. --Legolas (talk2me) 06:31, 16 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
So it's not ok to have the cancelled dates, but it is ok to have an additional note saying that she sing happy birthday to her son on one of the dates? What is encyclopedic about that? 201.240.187.99 (talk) 07:44, 16 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
The third party notability that such things received makes it encyclopedic. --Legolas (talk2me) 08:26, 16 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

i think the postponed and cancelled dates are part of a tour history and should be part of the article. this article is very good an extensive, but these planned dates are a information like other infos in the article. is it so a big problem to add this informations? for many people these informations have enough relevance! 79.244.67.210 (talk) 11:44, 16 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Can you provide any third party notability for it? Because I couldnot find any (I developed the article) and hence had to remove them as being unsourced. --Legolas (talk2me) 03:35, 17 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

i have also searched for the cancelled dates! please add this dates again! it's part of the tour. when was the hamburg und manchester show? i need this informations. put this into the article! 77.118.249.206 (talk) 11:07, 27 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Completely agree. They should be included!!!! Fighter02 (talk) 16:27, 5 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
No, they are unnecessary. --Legolas (talk2me) 07:25, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

in my opinion: postponed or cancelled tour dates are part of the tour history. i talked with a friend of mine about the S&S tour and he aked me, which dates had a cancellation and why... wikipedia is a good source, but nothing is in this article. one sentence about this would be OK! 217.81.15.159 (talk) 09:58, 3 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

WP is not a fansite that every one of trivial informations will be uploaded. You can consult any Madonna fansite for such info. — Legolas (talk2me) 10:16, 3 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

i'm not the only one! many readers wanna have infos like this! how long is this article? all of this informations are important like you are saying, BUT to mention FOUR cancelled tour dates are too much for this article?? this is strange!!! 217.81.15.159 (talk) 14:39, 3 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Kolpakov Trio not Romanian

edit

In the 'Madonna's statements' section of the article, the image text refers to the Kolpakov Trio as being Romanian, which is incorrect. The band's own website refers to the band members as being Russian.[1] The word "Romanian" refers to something relating to Romania. The correct adjective to use would be "Romani", which refers to something relating to the Roma people, commonly known as Gypsies.--130.226.70.114 (talk) 16:58, 12 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Box Office Data

The total sales says 100% however there is one show where it says that only 82% of the tickets were sold, doesn't add up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.202.57.63 (talk) 14:11, 8 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

These "100 %" are ridiculous, so many shows where not sold out. I was in Paris, at the Stade de France, and there were plenty of empty seats, as well as tickets available at the counters. Weird for a so called sold out concert. Same with the concert at Bercy in 2009 the capacity is well above the indicated figure. A friend of mine was in Barcelona and was amazed the stadium was about one third empty. And I could go on with many other examples... Xman. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.186.17.236 (talk) 05:27, 15 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Image uploads by Itsbydesign

edit

Hi Itsbydesign since you did not bother to raise a discussion first, I'm gonna do it here in one article. This would be the same for all the tour articles that you are uploading images and changing tour posters. What is your rationale for doing so by changing long-standing images? I will invite the original uploader Chrishm21 who uploaded these images for their input. Adding further, Itsbydesign you are uploading all WP:NFCC failing images continuously. This is seriously against image policies in Wikipedia. —IB [ Poke ] 11:55, 18 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • It doesn't matter if the image has been within the article for 10 minutes or 10 years, every editor on this platform has every right to change an image. None of the images I have uploaded have failed WP:NFCC; images being orphaned because of these exact matters is not against any policy. You are definitely reaching on that case. All of these images fail Wikipedia's policy on image use and non-free images. Pertinent information cannot be cropped out (such as dates, venue info, etc) is one of my biggest gripes. If any user is uploading a poster as promotional material, what is the point of removing the part that shows the promotional information? In many occasions, new images are being uploaded using the same word-for-word justification as the image you are so "against". I am not just googling an image for the tour and throwing in the first one I see. I am looking for consistencies in the design (style, formatting, images used, colors, etc). I truly do not have the time to engage in a one-sided conversation or reaching to confirm whatever agenda you have in your head. If a standalone generic image is desired, fine. Change the justification to say it is not a promotional poster or a poster advertising an event.Itsbydesign (talk) 15:14, 18 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
Every editor has right to upload, but when it is challenged, you are supposed to discuss and come to consensus. The images are sourced from where they are available. That complies with the NFCC rationale and justification given. Dates are already present in the article body and do not need to be represented in a non-free image for it to be inclusive in articles. Your basic understanding of NFCC is wrong. " I truly do not have the time to engage in a one-sided conversation or reaching to confirm whatever agenda you have in your head." → Attitude like this is not congenial and nor does it have any bearing on attaining consensus so I suggest you drop it. —IB [ Poke ] 15:20, 18 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hello! First of all, thank u @IndianBio: for requesting my input. As for @Itsbydesign:, you need to understand that these "standalone generic" images are send out to the countries/entertainment companies who adapt them and complement them with the dates/venues/info before releasing them to the public; they are not necessarily needed on the poster. And as IndianBio already explained, dates and venues are already present in the article. Your uploads with dates/venue are unnecessary; yes other designs may exist but that's not really the issue as (in my opinion) the current ones that are used are perfectly fine and serve their purpose; we need to keep these articles updated with relevant information that compliments (like commercial/critical reception, impact), not by senselessly switching the image of a promotional poster. Hope I was able to make myself clear 😅😅 --Chrishm21 (talk) 22:35, 18 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
As a graphic designer for 13 years, I can tell you that is not how it works, but, continue to believe what you feel. As for @IndianBio:, you truly need to step down from your high horse. This is one of five times you attempted to reach a consensus in the numerous years you've been on this platform. You cannot pretend to act like a shrinking violet when your back is against the wall. Bottom line, it does not quantify as a promotional image if it does not contain promotional material. You will not walk down the street and see a poster of Mariah Carey for her latest tour without showing the date, venue, website, etc. It's absurd that you think otherwise. This excuse about the information already in the article is just as useful as wet rocks on the beach. If you want to use these generic images, then don't quantify them as promotional materials and also, don't just do a copy and paste of the justification of another image. Plain and simple. I will repeat myself. I will not engage in a one-sided conversation. If you want to have a civil conversation, I am more than happy to oblige. But, this victim pandering that you're already doing shows that you do not. This is just something for you to do to save face. I will no longer participate in this folly and this will be my final comment on this matter.Itsbydesign (talk) 02:47, 19 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
That's your call if you do not want to partake in discussion, but you are NOT to change any content, including changing images or page moves without first attaining consensus and WP:RM, respectively. Else WP:ANI is where you will find yourself. —IB [ Poke ] 09:25, 19 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
