Game influence

edit

I suppose sportsmanship is not possible without a well designed (balanced) game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.23.127.36 (talk) 22:13, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup request

edit

From User:Stratadrake:

Article is a nearly verbatim copy of Sport#Sportsmanship article section. Should be either merged, or rewritten and expanded with more content.

From Internet Reader.

I'm all for political corectness but I found the changing of the word "Sportsmanship" To the word "Sportspersonship" Not only rediculous but distracting from the article and it's understanding.

Couldnt have put it better myself —Preceding unsigned comment added by :P124.181.46.119 (talk) 06:27, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Temporary Lock

edit

This page seeem to be being raided in order to put a picture of Donald Trump in the article. Petition to temporarily lock this and "sportsmanship" for the foreseeable future. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BlitzenKriegen (talkcontribs) 00:43, 6 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Examples

edit

Is an incident in college softball the best that anybody can come up with? I mean softball...and college softball... And if I'm not mistaken completing the actual run after a home run is really only symbolic anyway. The other team hardly sacrficed anything. What about John Landy? Should there be a list of sore losers since sore loser redirects here? Only those with reliable source references, please. JB50000 (talk) 03:06, 24 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

How about this as an example of bad sportsmanship? http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/blog/the_dagger/post/BYU-apologizes-for-disrespectful-post-game-score?urn=ncaab-287264#mwpphu-container 71.94.90.69 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 17:04, 20 November 2010 (UTC).Reply

should this be included

edit

deleted this for obvious reason:

A competitor who exhibits poor sportsmanship is a complete faggot and deserves to be shot. after losing a game or contest is called a "sore loser" in some places. Behavior includes reacting immaturely or improperly, making excuses for their loss, referring to unfavorable conditions or other petty issues.

But should this really be included in the first place, no citation or reference, but most of all, it isn't noteworthy.Lolipedofin (talk) 15:47, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Needs Revision

edit

"Sportsmanship typically is regarded as a component of morality in sport, composed of three related and perhaps overlapping concepts: fair play, sportsmanship, and character."

This paragraph lists "sportsmanship" as one of the three sub-components of "sportsmanship". I don't know about anyone else, but that doesn't make any sense to me. It's like using a word in its own definition. The paragraph then goes on to describe "fair play" and "character", but not this third "sportsmanship" component it lists. Suggest reducing it to the two components above, or revising it entirely. --juxtapose (talk) 15:17, 12 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah. Poor sentence. I think the idea is that it's morality that has the three components. I'll think about rewording. HiLo48 (talk) 16:27, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Odd sentence

edit

In the Relationship to morality section we are told "An example of poor sportsmanship is exemplified in a team's calling timeouts to run up the score on an opponent when the former team already has a sizable lead." I have no idea what that means. I'm guessing from the reference to timeouts that it's to do with some American sport, but it doesn't help. And can you really exemplify an example? I intend to delete that sentence. HiLo48 (talk) 16:31, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure but...

I don't think that this article is written with a neutral point of view. Could someone clarify this? Androzaniamy (talk) 22:13, 26 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Can you list specific examples of the problem you see, why it is a problem, and what you would like to see in its place? HiLo48 (talk) 22:16, 26 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm saying this article as a whole is just too connected with feelings and emotions rather than factual encyclopedic information and should maybe become an essay. Androzaniamy (talk) 22:45, 26 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
