PMRC
editWhat about a section on this guys involved in the PMRC? Hollowaynz (talk) 04:54, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
- Gorton in the PMRC Senate Hearing on 9/19/1985, audio of which Frank Zappa included in his track "Porn Wars" on the album Frank Zappa Meets The Mothers Of Prevention, released 11/21/1985 Tzf (talk) 06:21, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Mr. Zappa, I, ah, am astounded at the courtesy and soft-voiced nature of the comments of my friend, the Senator from Tennessee. I can only say that I found your statement to be boorish, ah, incredibly and insensitively insulting to the people that were here previously; that you could manage to give the first amendment of the Constitution of the United States a bad name, if I felt that you had the slightest understanding of it, which I do not. You do not have the slightest understanding of the difference between Government action and private action, and you have certainly destroyed any case you might otherwise have had with this Senator. Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
"Slippery Slade"
editSeems to me that the nickname "Slippery Slade" was widely enough used to merit a mention. A Google search on "Slippery Slade" + Gorton shows 243 hits, of which pretty much all seem relevant. Quite a few of these come from very citable sources, such as Seattle newspapers or even published books. - Jmabel | Talk 17:16, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
- It appears Ed Donohoe coined the nickname in his "Tilting the Windmill" column for The Washington Teamster newspaper. I can find usage of the nickname as far back as 1980 and as recently as 2005. Army Service Dates
editBio says he was born in January 1928 and later says he served in the Army from 1945-46. Gorton would have been 17 in 1945. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.175.113.15 (talk) 20:54, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
