Requesting a map showing the extent of Siwanoy territory circa 1640. The territory extended from Hell Gate to Norwalk, Connecticut, and as far inland as White Plains, New York.[1]: 279 The article currently uses a map of Long Island but due to the size of the map, the settlement locations are "squished" together and can't be labeled. Flag and descendants edit
@Rhythmnation2004: Should c:File:Flag of Siwanoy nation.png be added to this article? When you added it to Commons you gave the description "Flag of the Siwanoy nation as approved by the Siwanoy Descendants in August 2020". Do you have a source to confirm this? Do these descendants have any status that would make this flag 'official'? This article does not mention any living descendants: if there is an organized group that claims descent then we should mention them, if we can find a source. - Yes, the flag was approved by the Siwanoy Descendants group on Facebook. We are in the process of establishing tribal governance. However, since I am involved in tribal leadership and helped design the flag, I did not add it since I felt it would be conflict of interest.Rhythmnation2004 (talk) 19:59, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. I think the Facebook page is insufficiently reliable as a source for me to add the flag to the article. I have added the Facebook page in an External links section, partly to indicate the existence of an ongoing community. Verbcatcher (talk) 22:10, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

Contemporary organization edit
There's been promotional material interspersed throughout this article about a contemporary organization the "Siwanoy Nation," but there is no mention of this group in news, books, journals, etc. Mentions of "Siwanoy Nation" that aren't self-published or commercial (trying to sell flags) are referring to the historical 17th tribe, not the current organization, a nonprofit group in Tampa, Florida. The historical band is notable; the contemporary organization is not. I removed much of the promotional material (a link to a Facebook group?!?!) but left a link in the external links with an explanation of the nature of the organization with a citation. If other users feel that this external link should be deleted as wp:promotional, that seems completely reasonable. Yuchitown (talk) 03:58, 2 October 2022 (UTC)Yuchitown
