Castle? edit

The lead correctly says that it is a Schloss, however the article uses mostly "castle". Did it begin as a castle, a fortified building? When was it first called Schloss, which suggests "not a castle"? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:12, 10 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps the better word is schloss and "castle" should be replaced with this word instead?--Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:47, 10 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
I happen to work on a Schloss myself, which actually started as a castle, then was a palace (this is different). I replace the term, once it's clarified in the beginning, by a neutral "building", or simply "it" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:08, 10 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
You and User:Djembayz certainly know better on this than I do. However you edit it accordingly is fine with me. Do you want me to edit it?--Doug Coldwell (talk) 13:52, 10 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
I gave it a try, assuming that the first expansion made it a schloss, - please check. No idea what the sentence about the allees is supposed to mean, - I can't believe that all the ground is allees. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:15, 10 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Excellent edits you made, Gerda! This is where I got these ideas, I'm looking back at the JSTOR document and it says: The refuge in question was Schloss Warthausen, a castle in the Southern German Renaissance style with late Baroque external modifications.... I do believe you are correct about the allees. I was working off this wording from the JSTOR document: It is worth noting, however, that the fields beyond the gardens are neatly divided up and skirted by allees, some of which survive today. You can reword my words any way you wish to make it clearer = you are better at this than me. BTW, here is what I found on Flickr. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 14:38, 10 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
"Castle" is used in a broad sense (see the category), and in a more specific one. We can be specific. I'll try the trees, although I am not sure about the precise meaning of "skirted", --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:44, 10 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
