Princeton

Did Samuel Sprigg attend Princeton University (then the College of New Jersey)? He appears on Wikipedia's list of Princeton University people, but most biographies I've found of him mention no college at all. This article (warning: large PDF) in the Princeton University Library Chronicle about someone else says in a footnote (pp. 2-3) that he went there, as does this encyclopedia article. Neither cites a source. It's plausible that the Chronicle author is mistaken and the encyclopedia editor got it from her. Lagrange613 (talk) 05:21, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Republican

The Republican party as previously linked did not exist in the lifetime of this man. He could not have been a member of it. He was a member of the Democratic-Republican Party, which evolved into the current Democratic Party. The source given on the page is broken. That source says: Democratic-Republican. And while we're at it, how about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Governors_of_Maryland or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_party_strength_in_Maryland. These other Wikipedia pages say Democratic. NONE of those sources say Republican. A major reason for that is: if you click the link for the party which is linked from this article, you will see that the party wasn't formed until 1854, mere months before his death and well after this individual was active in politics.
