Under "List of Records",it is written as 34th point "First and only man to play 6 World Cups [1992-2011]" which is NOT true. Javed Miandad from Pakistan was the first player who played 6 world cups starting from 1975 to 1996. This can be verified from Javed miandad's wiki page.

Please change "First and only man to play 6 World Cups [1992-2011]" to "First and only Indian to play 6 World Cups [1992-2011]"

In 2002 just halfway through his career, Wisden Cricketers Almanack ranked him the second greatest Test batsman of all time, behind Don Bradman, and the second greatest ODI batsman of all time, behind Viv Richards.[6] Later in his career, Tendulkar was a part of the Indian team that won the 2011 World Cup, his first win in six World Cup appearances for India.[7] He had previously been named "Player of the Tournament" at the 2003 edition of the tournament, held in South Africa. In 2013, he was the only Indian cricketer included in an all-time Test World XI named to mark the 150th anniversary of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack.[8][9][10]

Objection to phrase "widely regarded as the greatest batsman of all time"

In the opening paragraph of this article, I object to the phrase that describes Tendulkar as being "widely regarded as the greatest batsman of all time".

The validity of some of the references that are cited to support this claim are flimsy at best. Wisden is cricket's "bible" (i.e. authoritative source) and in the 2000s they rank Sir Donald Bradman as the greatest (Test) batsman of all time, the player of the greatest Test innings of all times, and captain of the greatest Test team of all times, and the greatest player of all time http://www.topendsports.com/world/lists/greatest-all-time/cricket-wisden100.htm

Wisden's ranking was based upon a poll of 100 cricketing "greats", and they have a higher standing in the game than an obscure journalist, and MUST be considered a wider source than teh four references cited to support the claim of Tendulkar. Statistically, Bradman possesses a far superior Test average of 99.94 against Tendulkar's 53.78. Furthermore, Bradman's rate of a century every 2.76 innings is far superior to Tendulkar's ratio of one every 6.45 innings. The only part of Tendulkar's record that is superior to Bradman's is his sheer volume of runs as Tendulkar player many more Tests, but it is impossible to include this as comparisions to an era when international tours where facilitated by lengthy boat trips rather than jet travel, and so fewer games were played (and careers interrupted by teh outbreak of WW2).

Quite frankly, this article seems heavily biased from Indian fans. In summary, I strongly believe a more neutral, international description is needed and as such, proposed a simple change so that the phrase reads "widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time". Blammy1 (talk) 15:27, 24 September 2017 (UTC)

There is definitely an issue with Indian cricket fans slanting things in this article, and I would agree that Wisden is likely to be a superior source to the words of journalists, especially if those journalists are also Indian. However, you may need to seek input from the Cricket project (link should be at the top of this page) because any change to that is likely to cause a massive row involving the same fans. You could just mention on the Cricket project talk page that you have opened this discussion and would like wider input - no need to repeat your entire post there as this is indeed the correct venue. - Sitush (talk) 15:34, 24 September 2017 (UTC)

"regarded as the greatest batsman of all time."

This has repeatedly been changed from "regarded as one of the greatest batsman of all time" to its current form "regarded as the greatest batsman of all time." This is just an objectively wrong statement given Don Bradman's record. This article needs to be monitored more carefully to prevent these instances of bias. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 120.144.4.77 (talk) 15:43, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Caste in a BLP

As we know that the mention of caste in a WP:BLP requires self-identification per consensus at WP:INB, out of the three sources supporting the subject's caste, only one is a self-identification in which he says he is a "Marathi Manoos" (Marathi people). Should we change the name of the birthplace city?

He was born in Mumbai, when it was still called Bombay in 1973. Should we keep it as Bombay or update it to Mumbai? Arnab14008 (talk) 14:31, 5 January 2023 (UTC)

No, he was born in Bombay, we refer to places as they were called at the time. Some place have had numerous names e.g. Byzantium, Constantinople and Istanbul and we use all these names. Please see WP:MODERNPLACENAME - Arjayay (talk) 10:47, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

He was not born in Bombay but born in Mumbai.

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. M.Bitton (talk) 15:05, 25 February 2023 (UTC)

Nicknames

The use of nicknames in the lead section of a Wikipedia article is generally discouraged as it goes against Wikipedia's policy of maintaining a neutral point of view. Nicknames are often subjective and can vary across cultures and regions, and their use in the lead section may create a bias or suggest a level of familiarity that may not be appropriate for an encyclopedia.Furthermore, the lead section should identify the subject by their most commonly recognized name or title, as this is what readers are likely to search for. Using a nickname may cause confusion for readers who are not familiar with the subject, especially if the nickname is not widely known or used outside of a particular group or region.

I am of the opinion that Tendulkar's nicknames should be excluded from the lead section and restricted to his information box. However, I would appreciate other viewpoints regarding this matter, as I remain unsure about whether to remove them or not. ✨Ashish Legend✨ 04:21, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
