editI've changed every "Holland" into The Netherlands, for that is the official translation of Nederland (Dutch for "The Netherlands"). --Robster1983 21:31, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
Pronunciation?
editI'm naive. How exactly is "Nieuw" pronounced? Maybe this should be mentioned in the article? --Ragemanchoo (talk) 13:55, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- Like new, but with the e of evening, or actually more the i of evening. --Van helsing (talk) 10:52, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Date of Launch
editSaariko (talk) 19:49, 24 October 2008 (UTC) It says that the ship launched in 1936, however, Ellis island records show this ship manifest in harbor already by 1923. Was there a different ship? Are the dates wrong?
- Different ship - SS Nieuw Amsterdam (1905). Mjroots (talk) 13:38, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
repatriation of Dutch children after WW2 with this ship?
editIs this the ship that repatriated thousands of Dutch citizens after they were freed from the camps in Indonesia after WW2? There's a news article here (Dutch) that says their unfateful journey was made with the Nieuw Amsterdam. Same ship or a different one? 2001:980:E5EA:1:E11F:73CB:D444:128A (talk) 07:03, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
Huh?
editNieuw Amsterdam acclaim with titles such as "Ship of the Year" and, due to some features such as fire resistance, air conditioning and accommodations, "Ship of Tomorrow" by some.
