Etymology edit

I am not very happy with the etymology section as it is more like a essay. The problem I faced, was that with so little solid evidence, any conjecture needs to have the context explained, in order for the reader to understand why such ideas have been put forward (both the serious and plain daft). Also it helps the reader to appreciated that what is written in history books is not always 'the facts' but just educated guesses based on what little hard evidence is dug up and together with any contemporary writings which may survive. Not forgetting: history get written in a way that reflects (to some extent) the mood and thinking of the period in which it is composed. All this, makes it rather a long section. Therefore, I have added it – still somewhat unpolished (references to be added soon). Maybe the way to deal with its length is to add much more text about other aspects of the Brent on other sections so as to make this section seem shorter.

Needles to say I will transfer some of the Hanwell applicable text to that article but for now, I don't what to confuse matters by making the two articles cite each other which might support any faux pas that may creep in. --Aspro 08:41, 18 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree, this section needs cutting down and all the stuff about Hanwell needs moving to that page (or deleting). As nothing seems to have happened since it was first raised 2 years ago I'll take this on shortly.Andrewself (talk) 10:39, 6 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
agreed - seems to be totally wrong as well -unt or -ant are not any recognisable 'Celtic' words - Isca/Uisc/Exe and Dwr / Der are the usual words for water, Avon for river - should be deleted unless referenced.81.159.212.212 (talk) 18:04, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Plagiarism? edit

This article has been copied by Barratt Homes for a leaflet I have just received, telling me I may want to know a little more about the River Brent. When they use Wikipedia as a source for things like this, aren't they obliged to credit it? DavidFarmbrough (talk) 18:34, 6 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect coordinates edit

The current coordinates are of a location in north-east Essex, near the Suffolk border. Could someone closer please correct these? I'll get around to it eventually, but if anyone feels like diving in then please do. Brammers (talk/c) 20:41, 6 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Too much irrelevant information edit

Far too much information on this page not on the River. History of the ice age in Britain, followed by pre-Roman history of settlements in London etc. I just want to know about the river.

What the article does need is a map showing where the river is. 67.231.66.125 (talk) 02:34, 27 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
