Japanese belief? edit

From what I know, it's an ancient Chinese belief that people are tied with red strings.... I'm going to do some research. --Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 01:43, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I am only familiar with it from references to it in anime and manga, if it originates from China (so do a lot of Japanese myths) the please add this info with the proper references. --GracieLizzie 10:27, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't know where it originated from, but an ancient myth in China has it, as google will show. However, I didn't find anything solid that I can reference. --Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 17:16, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Here's a site that says "The origin of this concept is somewhat up in the air, with people claiming many different countries of origin and/or religions for it (Japan, China, various European nations, Judaism, Buddhism, and many others), but the usage is clear regardless." --Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 17:26, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
The version I heard was that the red string was attached to the person's little finger, and that it could even be reincarnated with a person's soul. --Minako-chan27 (talk) 11:46, 16 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
The Chinese myth I was told by my folks is that it is attached to the ankle. Pinky seems to be a pop/romanticized development, though I can't claim that. The TV Trope is a wiki, which contradicts itself stating that it originates in China but also has claim to various other regions and countries. A few resources I've seen online (which don't pass for reliable sources, unfortunately) describe the thread as tying a couple's feet together or otherwise being connected at the feet. Somehow, the pinky aspect is more prominent in Japanese pop culture media.Luminum (talk) 16:16, 16 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

References edit

I added the reference listed above and two more from a site about Asian wedding customs. Hopefully that's enough to justify the tag removal. Tsewukong 04:50, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

i dont remember where ive read it, and its just a minor detail, but the red thread didnt just determine your soul mate at its end. It also showed all the tangles were from people who you had crossed paths with in your life, crossing others red threads as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.84.241.6 (talk) 07:41, 19 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Psycho-tier stories edit

What the hell are these psycho-tier stories? They aren't romantic at all and involve people trying to hurt or murder their "soulmate". Aren't there any better, more romantic, examples? 89.150.199.13 (talk) 07:16, 23 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
