Deviation edit

The apparent double line near Cuto appears to be a deviation, probably to improve the gradients of the original alignment. It is not clear which is the original alignment.

Links to neighbouring countries edit

Angola’s three railways, Luanda, Benguela and Namibe, are to be linked to the rail networks of neighbouring countries, the DRC, Zambia and Namibia.

These plans are part of a programme called Development of the Integrated Railway System approved by the government in 2001.

The Benguela railway [CFB] (Central Railway) is expected to reach the border between Moxico province and the Republic of Zambia, then be linked to Zambian Railways. A special branch line will be built between Luacano station in Moxico and the Lumwana mine, which is under construction in Zambia.

The Namibe railway (Southern Railway) will be linked to the Namibian rail network, starting at Cuvango station stretching 343km as far as Oshikango, in Namibia, next to the border with Angola’s Cunene province.

Construction of the Congo railway line is being studied, which will link Luanda (Northern Railway) to the provinces of Bengo, Uíge, Zaire and Cabinda, stretching over 950km then linking with Chemin de Fer du Congo Ocean, in Congo Brazzaville.

Here Malanje or here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&profile=default&search=malanje&fulltext=Search. Units of measurement edit

The units of measurement need to be put into the {{convert}} template to give distances in miles as well as km and the gauges need to be converted as well eg:

{{convert|600|mm|ftin}} gauge
  • 600 millimetres (2 ft 0 in) gauge

This article is very muddled and needs input from someone with good local knowledge edit

Unfortunately the order and description of stations on the CFL line (and very likely the others as well) is both muddled and to some extent inaccurate, but as I don't have have any local knowledge and have struggled to find reliable sources online I'm hesitant to change it myself. From my own research and cross reference to Google Earth I would re-order/comment on the present list of the CFL stations as follows:

  • Luanda (port, national capital, junction for Caxito branch).
  • Bungo (this seems to be simply the bairro (neighbourhood) within which the Lunda terminus station is located, rather than being a station itself)
  • Caxito (branch terminus, provincial capital). This branch line seems to have been part of a project to built a line further to the north east but construction does not seem to have got any further and from Google Earth the whole branch seems to be abandoned.
  • Quicabo (status uncertain). This town seems to be remote from known railways - was it perhaps an intended station on the seemingly unbuilt extension beyond Caxito?)
  • Funda & Cabiri (status uncertain). If the locations of these towns are plotted correctly on Google Earth I can see no evidence of a branch line in this area, and I have not found any online references to one except links back to this article.
  • Sambizanga & Rangel (these also seem to be bairros of Luanda through which the line passes rather than actual stations)
  • Cazenga (principal railway workshops, adjacent to Musseques station)
  • Musseques, Filda, Grananil, Estalagem, Comarca & Viana (suburban stations on main line)
  • Angola International Airport (terminus of short branch line under construction - not listed in present article)
  • Camizunzo & Cotete (stations on main line)
  • Zenza do Itombe (junction for Dondo branch)
  • Dondo (branch terminus)
  • Quixinge (status uncertain). Article describes this as an extension Dondo line, but I can find no evidence/references to it so was it ever actually built?
  • Beira Alta & Luinha (stations on main line)
  • Canhoca (junction for Golungo Alto branch)
  • Cambondo (station on Golumbo Alto branch)
  • Golumbo Alto (terminus of former 600mm gauge branch line). Online refernces to this as still being extant as 600mm gauge in late 1960s, but was it ever re-gauged? Appears to be completely extinct
  • N'dalatando, Cacuso & Lombe (stations on main line)
  • Malanje (terminus)
  • Pomagol, Texatang & Boa Vista (status uncertain - unable to identify locations)
  • Baia Farta (status uncertain - link is to article on Baia Bengo not Baia Farta, unable to identify location)
  • Barro do Dante (proposed new port, status uncertain) If this is only a proposed line it should be listed in that section rather than under the CFL list.
