Is "ragu" spelled with an acute or a grave accent? Both are used inconsistently in the article.

I would remove the french mirepoix and would re-add soffritto since this is an italian dish. --Biopresto 17:26, 1 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bizzare use of Divert edit

Ragu diverts to the brand name Ragú and ragú (which is the orginal and generic) is a sub-set within it. This is simple product placement. I an changing Ragu to a disambiguation page, but would prefer routing Ragu to ragú and having an italic link to Ragú. Comments? --Duncan 22:56, 12 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree that this is a mess, but I am not sure that I understand your solution: specifically, I was under the impression that in Wikipedia anarticle will always redirect to Anarticle, so differentiating between ragú and Ragú wouldn’t work.

The way I see it is this

Ragu (no accent)
Not a word in my vocabulary; not a word in the first two dictionaries to hand (Oxford Shorter, Collins Concise); might be trademarked[1]
Ragú (with an acute accent)
A trademarked brand name for a product I wouldn’t dream of purchasing
Ragù (grave accent)
A class of Italian sauce, of which the most famous examples are ragù bolognese (WP article is Bolognese sauce) and ragù napoletano (Neapolitan ragù)

On that basis the current article should be split into two

  • Ragú would cover the brand and mention (if it is true) that it is a spelling mistake and therefore trademarkable.
  • Ragù would give a description of the sauce and link to Bolognese sauce and Neapolitan ragù, but probably not to Ragú the brand.

As for Ragu (with no accent), I think that the article should probably be deleted. -- Ian Spackman 11:35, 13 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

This seem totally sensible. But I would Suggest that Ragu diverts to Ragù. We should not punish people for not searching with accents. --Duncan 08:34, 14 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. Have done just that. Ian Spackman 11:54, 14 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

spelling issue edit

I think maybe we need to point out the spelling difference in the beginning because most English speakers won't notice unless we point it out. --Gbleem 11:56, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

In the UK edit

Ragu is sold as Ragu. Simply south 10:20, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
