Haitian-born or? edit

I've seen numerous sources call Chassagne Haitian-born, others say her parents fled Duvalier in the 1960s. Even Merge isn't quite clear on this.[1] Anyway, I'm starting to wonder (I would think if she was born while her parents were in the US (Chicago & New York) that would have come out.) Just putting this issue out here. --Dhartung | Talk 07:14, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

It appears this has been clarified by the RTE interview. I'll transcribe the relevant points here shortly. -- Dhartung | Talk 01:51, 17 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Coup? edit

Butler, in interviews, has told the story that Chassagne's great-uncle was an ambassador who, with the help of Castro, assisted in a coup against Duvalier (father or son unspecified) that was betrayed by a priest. I imagine this is an historical event that should be recorded. I found this list of attempts to overthrow Duvalier (the elder) that points to an intriguing possibility or three. More than one coup involved a tricky river crossing, which may relate to the lyrics of "Haiti". Also, Catholic priests and exiles were involved in a late 1964 attempt, but most other attempts involved peasants and ex-military. The one Cuban-related invasion[2] took place in August 1959. More on the '59 coup, which was routed with the help of a US Marine Corps detachment in Haiti for "stabilization". Anyway, if anything citeable turns up, it would be useful to expand the article. --Dhartung | Talk 07:58, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Black ancestry? edit

Does anyone know if she has distant African/Black ancestry? Thanks. Haiti's demographics would suggest that it is a country where most of the population is black so it's not unlikely. Also, going on her physical features I would guess so.--CretinInsiduous (talk) 19:18, 28 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Different Photograph? edit

Surely a better photograph could be used? The current picture is not flattering and has been taken from a horrible angle. Couldn't this one or this one be used? User:endhits 00:33, 02 November 2009 (UTC-5)

Username on fansite is...? edit

"On several occasions Regine has launched into her song "Haiti" with an anecdote regarding her love of roses. This is her username on the Arcade Fire fansite."

Sorry, this is ambiguous, at least in my mind. Is her username "Haiti", "Love of roses" or something else?

I've removed the statement. The username or the website is not apparent. The apparently official fansite requires registration to read through; at this point I stopped researching. Ponydepression (talk) 21:40, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

External link edit

As mentioned in my recent edit, I removed the following external link: Profile of Régine Chassagne from an article by Elizabeth Goodman in Rolling Stone.

That page doesn't exist. I tried Googling it, but I could only find the exact same link on multiple wiki-type pages. I searched for the "title" that's in the URL and came upon this: [3] which notes that the article is not by Elizabeth Goodman. It led to this, which is the actual article: [4]. I am thinking that the unknownstyle.com link is an RSS update from rollingstone.com.

Unfortunately at this point the article isn't really just about Régine anymore, so I was hesitant to put it back in. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Easytoplease (talkcontribs) 21:46, 14 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

glass edit

Why does this article end in a statement about the viscosity of glass? I couldn't find it under the edits. Clever vandal or strange bug? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.231.116.252 (talk) 05:09, 16 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
