Getting started
editHi Mark, interesting all the new things I am learning from this task of the class! I made a few minor edits in the text. I was wondering if you could add an image of the area? I am intrigued to see what it looks like. Are there some external links like tourism pages that would lead to the viewer to the mountains? Additionally for the history, is there a possible link to a reference? Hope this is helpful Japson88 (talk) 17:32, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
Interesting topic
editHi Yhuo, I like the topic and, like Japson88, I am curious to see how this project will develop. After a little searching I found references to Qianling Mausoleum and to Xi'an which mentioned the mountains. Then again, and as I know little about the geography of China, I might be suggesting that these two points are as related as Vancouver is to Toronto ;). Being a visual person, I am looking forward to seeing images that you might add. From a construction point of view, was it fairly straightforward to add in the Chinese characters? I ask as I have been using the wikED tool and it was causing me some difficulties with odd characters. Dazzpedian (talk) 21:49, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
Thank you Japson88 and Dazzpedian!
editI added two images on some of the attractions on the mountain. Interacting with the monkeys are particularly fun. Locals go there everyday and some of them actually know the monkeys! They give them names and play with them. I hope you like the images!Yhuo (talk) 23:54, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
More thoughts
editGood start! I agree with Japson88 ... learning many interesting things from classmates daily. I wonder if adding a map that depicts location of this mountain range or area would help place them in a geographic context. Not sure if there is one to be readily found and used in - Commons: Wikimedia --may be worth a look--4tiggy (talk) 00:47, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
red links, etc.
editHi Mark: This is really interesting - I have to agree with everyone else that I'm reading about things I never expected to in this course! The photos you've used are very intriguing - it looks like a beautiful place. Have you considered adding red links for some of the attractions - e.g.Qianling Lake or Hongfu Temple? That might inspire others to create articles on these attractions. Also, it might be helpful for the reader if you explained a little about the size of the area - I'd be curious to know whether the "9 turn hiking way" takes 30 minutes or 8 hours to hike! As an aside, I had a quick look at the Lonely Planet site on the area and found this: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/china/guizhou/guiyang/things-to-do Sounds like there's a cable car to the top? Whether that's worth mentioning or not is your call! I think this article actually poses some interesting issues for the Wikipedian. Is there a parallel article on the Chinese site? I'd be curious to know what that's like, if it exists. Apart from the translation, would it need to be written differently for an English speaking audience? Would love to hear your thoughts on the Chinese version of Wikipedia some time - I'm wondering how different it is from the English version, both in topics covered and in editor culture. suggestions
editHi there! I think the article is coming along nicely, with clear sections that define areas of content. I would like to see more content under each of the headings, to learn more about this interesting area. the pictures help place me in this area of the globe.--Ncsjfreed (talk) 03:30, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
