As a Portuguese national, I must point out that the water is fairly cold in the Atlantic coast of Portugal, due to the Canary current, that runs North-South and cools the sea in this region. Hence, the difference between is not as dramatic as the text sugests. This section needs some attention... it is written in editorial style. Claims are unsubstantiated or unprovable and it is full of typographical/grammatical errors. A more academic/traditional-encyclopedic style should be adopted.

Would it not be appropriate to remove this section? These claims might as well apply for any other dog. 213.239.118.193 (talk) 07:14, 8 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

The intro to this article is incredibly similar to the description of the breed from the AKC page. Read: "Portuguese Water Dogs are originally from the Portuguese region of the Algarve, from where the breed expanded to all around Portugal's coast, where they were taught to herd fish into fishermen's nets, to retrieve lost tackle or broken nets, and to act as couriers from ship to ship, or ship to shore. Portuguese Water Dogs rode in bobbing fishing trawlers as they worked their way from the warm Atlantic waters of Portugal to the frigid fishing waters off the coast of Iceland where the fleets caught cod to bring home."
