Untitled edit
I have been very careful in writing and moving this article; the subject is my employer so and requires careful consideration of WP:COI issues. While drafting, I paid very close attention to WP:NOR, WP:BIO and WP:BLP among other applicable guidelines. Likewise, I sought approval of uninvolved editors on the Help desk before moving it from my user subpage. I will continue to improve this article as information warrants, but I understand WP:OWN as well so I recognize that the article is not mine. My concerns edit
1) The tone is still a little gushing, with items sourced from places like something called Cushing Magazine about how he was an internet pioneer. 2) I feel that since "NMS Bill" who works for Snyder at NMS is the author of the article, the COI tag must stay. 3) There's way too much here about who his firm's clients are. - Hello, Mike. Thanks for replying. A few considerations and some questions:
- 1) First, the "internet pioneer" claim is more specific than that, and spells out what the firm did that was new. I recognized this could be a contentious claim and so double-sourced it. One is the magazine of Cushing Academy and the second is from a now-defunct magazine by Eamon Javers, who is now a business reporter at The Politico. I believe these second-party sources are intellectually independent of Snyder and should be considered reliable.
- 2) I am unclear on your view of the COI tag and its purpose. Do you intend that it should remain indefinitely for the reason that I am the originator and not necessarily for reasons having to do with the content itself? If correct, is there precedent for this?
- 3) How much is too much about clients? Their inclusion was meant to be informational. If you can provide a guideline here, I would appreciate that.
- I don't see any real problems with this article, thank you for your attempts to edit on a subject where you have a COI in a clear and open way. It's late for me and I'm about to go to bed. This is what I propose to do - tomorrow, I will check all the sources and re-edit the article as needed (and even a quick skim tells me that I expect to do very little) and unless something shocking comes to light or someone else beats me to it, I'll then remove the tags. --Cameron Scott (talk) 22:59, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
Suggested update for community review edit

I commented on this discussion back in April 2011, noting that this article is not quite up to date, as it omits more current information (such as a new position) that has since been published by reliable sources. As the subject of this article is the CEO of my present employer, I am mindful of WP:COI and do not seek to make any direct edits without establishing consensus (with the input of other independent editors).
As of August 2011 this article has yet to be brought up to date, so I've put together an updated version for consideration--that more closely aligns with Wikipedia's content standards--here in this temporary sandbox. Would other editors be willing to review this sandbox version, and move it to mainspace if you agree with the proposed changes? Revision for community consideration? edit
{{Request edit}}Pete Snyder has recently changed careers (he is no longer CEO of the company NMS), and started a different company, so the article is now inaccurate/out of date. As noted above, I have a close connection to the subject of this article, so it wouldn't be appropriate for me to make any direct edits, per WP:COI.
I've put together a proposed update to this article to reflect these changes. The proposed revision is based on reliable (cited) sources, and can be found here in my user sandbox. Could another editor independent of the subject review this proposed revision and, if you feel it aligns with Wikipedia's content policies and guidelines, update the article accordingly? A few years ago I created this article in my capacity as an employee of Mr. Snyder; I am the same person as NMS Bill above. That account is retired as I no longer work for the firm, but I have a different financial connection to him now: I'm a contributor to his current campaign for lieutentant governor of Virginia. These days I always avoid direct editing articles when I have a financial COI, however there's a lot about this page which can be updated. For the moment, I'd like to suggest two fairly simple changes:
- In the Politics section, add a new paragraph (formatted in the green box, markup in purple):
- In November 2012, Snyder announced his candidacy for lieutenant governor of Virginia.[1] In February 2013, Snyder released a mobile app called "I'm In" to educate Republicans in Virginia on how and where they can participate in the nominating convention in May, where Snyder is a candidate.[2]
- In the Fox News Contributor subsection, add the following (same as above):
There is also a double-period at the end of the Fox News Contributor section, and the section heading should actually read Fox News contributor, since Wikipedia uses sentence case. Following the update above, I'd like to suggest a revision to the introductory section that removes some detail which I think isn't really germane. The most important information could be communicated in a single paragraph, and here's what I'd suggest:

- Thanks, Canoe! I also noticed the weirdness with citation 16, but hadn't looked closely into it. Now I have: the problem is the URL, which apparently included pipes (you know, "|") and that disrupts the citation formatting. As with my earlier notes on this page, these are just suggestions to improve the readability and organization of this article, and not necessarily the only way to do it. Here's what I'd suggest:
- Remove the following from the Early career section; the sentence is not about his early business career, it's not current, the company bio link is dead, and the topic is addressed later in the article. That said, the first clause, about his start in 2000, should be relocated to the Fox News contributor section:
- Snyder started making frequent appearances on national television networks in the U.S. in 2000,[1] and now serves as a regular contributor on the Fox News Channel.[2]
- Rename the Other work section as Other activities, which I think is a bit more appropriate heading for information about Pete Snyder's activities that don't fall under one of the other sections.
- Following that, the Fox News contributor section should be moved to the now-renamed "Other activities" section because it is not really related to Pete Snyder's political career.

Post-convention update edit

I've been making suggestions for this article on behalf of Mr. Snyder, a candidate in the May 18 Republican nominating convention for Virginia Lt. Governor. Per this Fredricksburg.com article, Mr. Snyder was not the nominee and so is no longer a candidate—so there are a few sections of this article which should be updated.
First, I've prepared a revised version of the introduction updating the final sentence to include the past tense:
Pete Snyder (born August 5, 1972) is an American entrepreneur and marketing executive who is best known as the founder and former chief executive officer of New Media Strategies (NMS), a social media marketing agency that he started in 1999.[3] Snyder stepped down as CEO of NMS in 2011 and founded the angel investment firm Disruptor Capital in 2012. Snyder was the chairman of the 2012 Virginia Victory Campaign and ran for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia in the 2013 United States elections where he was was eliminated in the primary.[4]

I have also prepared an update for the Politics section. In revising this section I have opted to remove the information about the "I'm In" smartphone app, but I'm OK leaving this in if others feel it should remain. My thinking was that this information was added at a time when the section on his candidacy would grow over time, but now that he's no longer in the race, it seems a bit trivial. So here's what I've prepared:
