It's vaguely suggested, but debated on imdb, that Peggy Sue was so excited to see her little sister because she died of cancer. (She told her not to eat red M&M's.) Thoughts? -Alice

It was actually believed (based on a Soviet study) in the 70's that red dye No. 2 caused cancer, so it was banned for the next decade by the FDA. Mars stopped making the red m&m's for that time period, even though they were not even made from red dye No. 2. Also, the sister did not die of cancer. I got the impression that Nancy may have died, too, but no cause of death came to mind. JulioB

Back to the Future

I changed the trivia suggestion [1] that the backstory was the opposite as this is clearly not the case. Since BttF was completed before PSGM, BttF clearly wasn't trying to cash off the success of PSGM, because PSGM had not been successful at the time. It wasn't even that BttF was simply copying PSGM since the story had apparently existed since 1980. Clearly SS was influenced to make BttF by seeing the work PSGM and who know's perhaps he even had some feedback that the concept would do well, e.g. from some early audience review for BttF (although we'd need a source for something like that) but he also wasn't simply copying PSGM. The creators of PSGM weren't copying BttF either, but I think the explaination given is sufficient Nil Einne (talk) 14:00, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Disambiguation

I think immediately linking to the film is troublesome, considering there is also a song and musical that shares the same name. I'm noticing that many pages that mean to link to the song end up mistakenly being directed to this page. I'd propose to turn this into a disambiguation page where it can direct to either the song, the film, or the musical. -Disco dude rock (talk) 18:35, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Debra Winger

Two different sections of the article give two different reasons why Winger didn't star in the film. First, in the Cast section, it says she was "forced to back out just before production began due to a back injury suffered in a bicycle accident." But right below in the Production section, it's recounted how Penny Marshall quit the project over creative differences with the writers and that "Winger then quit out of loyalty to Marshall."
