Notable person's information not directly related to the murder case itself
editThere is already an article, called Murder of Pavlos Fyssas, which covers the murder case which is ongoing thanks to the trials at the Courts. However info about his bio and work, which are not exactly fitting for the article about the murder itself, were, for obvious reasons, moved by me to the present biographic article. I also took some time and have expanded the biographic article with more sources, an infobox and some info on the person's background which is unrelated to the murder case itself. However an editor has reverted all of the edits and deleted completely every information and RS on the matter, on the grounds that it was the murder that made this person notable in the first case, so no biographic article would exist about him. However shouldnt it be better to have the info about the person and his work (not his murder) be on their own article instead of cramming them up alltogether in the murder article? --- ❖ SilentResident ❖ (talk ✉ | contribs ✎) 01:11, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
Proposed merge with Murder of Pavlos Fyssas
editIt's pretty obvious that these two articles overlap significantly in scope. Other language Wikipedia projects seem to differ on whether to combine these articles or leave them separate--a majority have a single article, usually under the title of just "Pavlos Fyssas", but Greek Wikipedia has two separate articles.
I think that it seems most appropriate to have just one article; if there's significant coverage of Fyssas's life, then content should be merged to Pavlos Fyssas. If there isn't, then it should be merged to Murder of Pavlos Fyssas. signed, Rosguill talk 23:14, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
- Support merge. Clearly not notable outside of his murder.Onel5969 TT me 02:27, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
Comment: I wont go against a merge proposal, as long as we agree to have the extra information (bios, and more than what originally was there in the murder article) permitted for further expansion of the murder article in the future. Pavlos Fyssas isn't just "a man notable for being killed and nothing more". As someone with high knowledge of the internal affairs in Greece, I can assure everyone that he is more than that. This is partially reflected by the reason the other Wikipedia projects maintain separate articles for him. --- ❖ SilentResident ❖ (talk ✉ | contribs ✎) 12:37, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
OpposeConditionally supporting (see bellow) merging the murder article into this. I asked for the sourced biographic information to not get erased in the case of a merge (like how Onel5969 has done last time, where he deleted completely anything in this biographic article without adding anything to the murder article) but there wasn't any response.Due to this, I am changing my stance from Neutral to Oppose.I really believe sourced biographic content not belonging to the Murder article shouldn't be erased. --- ❖ SilentResident ❖ (talk ✉ | contribs ✎) 02:21, 28 September 2019 (UTC)- As I said in my opening statement, I'm fine with the merge target being Pavlos Fyssas, in which case sourced information about his life will be retained. signed, Rosguill talk 03:04, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
- Happy to hear this, because I strongly believe there will be fewer problems if the murder information is merged into the biographic article than the other way around. This will allow us to expand the article on more fronts.
A question however. Since you are ok with merging the other article with this, shouldn't it be better if the Merger request is initiated on the Murder talk page instead of here? - Edit: nevermind, checking on the guideline, I dont see any problem at all. Changed my Oppose to Conditional support. Rosguill, thank you very much! --- ❖ SilentResident ❖ (talk ✉ | contribs ✎) 03:50, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
