Banned from Olympics
editSurely the article should mention that McQuaid was banned from the Olympics (1980 or 1976) due to his having broken the boycott of apartheid by racing in South Africa (for considerable money, under a false name). 92.29.35.229 (talk) 17:13, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
- Right on false name, wrong on the money. And it is in the article.
First
editFirst Irish person to lead a major global sport body?
List
editIs this needed: List of Presidents of the UCI, or is the template already present enough. And there must be more pictures available? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.254.110.209 (talk) 08:43, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
New articles
editEnough already in Pat. Love him as many old-timers do, or not, as many new to cycling, he’s just one guy. Enough material even on this page to write up some of his more successful forebears, and their pals, properly. 95.165.222.158 (talk) 09:49, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
- Jim's passing I recollect, 1991, after he moved to Raheny, but what happened to Paddy? He must have been 20 years in CRE and ICF, but there was no money in that then, did he retire out of Dublin, or still lives in Glasnevin?
- Aye, Jim died in Raheny, but Madge is still there. He was literally a stone's throw from Joe Doyle, who was brother-in-law of Donal O'Connell. You'd find the lot of em, plus Steve "the kid" Lawless and Paddy McInerney, and a slew of Lallys and Kimmages, over at Paddy McQuaid's in Ballygall in the 1970s.82.141.251.29 (talk) 09:21, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
New category
editI see discussion of having more related profiles in Wikipedia, good. There is an obvious place for Irish cycling organisers or administrators as a category then, as part of a bigger such category for the whole rather large area of Irish sports administration and promotion. If this is done, it should not just be filling in the historical gap but also taking in modern organisers like the team trying to keep the globally-recognised Ras afloat, and those organising mountain biking events. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.160.156.249 (talk) 08:49, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
Children
editI am working on other articles on Irish cycling. While cross-checking with this one, one of the more substantial, I noticed an obvious gap. Pat McQuaid has at least two children actively involved in modern cycling matters, but they are not mentioned. One was involved in a major British team, the same or another the agent for several cyclists, including Stephen Roche's son. Can someone sort that out? I could try myself, after current work is done.Twilson r (talk) 08:01, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
Marriage
editTinahely, 2004, I believe. 185.18.202.78 (talk) 07:22, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
- I thank you, and assume that this was a second marriage, as existing references relate to an earlier period. I will look into this. Twilson r (talk) 10:51, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
Potential club cat. - Emerald
editWith at least three articles, will probably form category for Emerald Cycling Club. SeoR (talk) 11:33, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
